Does anyone have any data they have tried using longshot powder and the Keith 358429 bullet in 357mag brass? I'm wanting to try it For some mid velocity loads since Universal is unavailable now. Say around 1100-1200 fps.

bigbore5: BEEN WONDERING SORT'a THE SAME THING: IS THERE A 357 LONGSHOT LOAD KIND'a LIKE LINEBAUGH's 13.0grs OF HS-6 IN THE 45 COLT. ALSO, SOME OF US DO NOT KNOW THE BULLET WEIGHTS OF MANY MOLD #'s SO ITS ALWAYS NICE WHEN A BULLET WEIGHT IS PROVIDED WITH A MOLD #.

The Keith 358429 is his original 38sp swc. Mine drop at 176gr. Some versions drop at 168-174gr depending on alloy.
With this bullet's long nose, it uses about the same case capacity as the Sierra 170gr fmj or the MP 359-640 (173gr with my alloy) when they are crimped in the top lube groove. It also has about the same case capacity as the 158gr Lyman gc-swc 358-156.

I AM WANTING WORK UP A 38/44 LOAD WITH THAT TYPE AND WEIGHT OF BULLET IN 38 SPECIAL CASES FOR USE IN MY EARLY 50's S&W OUTDOORSMAN, HOPING THIS THREAD YIELDS SOME RELEVANT INFO.

Well Hodgeon Reloading lists a 170 and 180gr jacketed load with Longshot loads in this range, They should work well enough, certainly safe.
170gr 6.8gr for 1182fps up to 7.9gr for 1322fps 180gr 6.1gr for 1025fps up to 7.2gr for 1167fps
Should be a good starting place, start low and work up to your velo you are desiring.

I've seen the Hodgdon data for the jacketed bullets. I'm mostly trying to find someone who's tried it with this bullet. I've still got a few hundred of the Universal powder 158gr loads left and usually use H-110 under the Keith's for hunting. Now I just want to try something milder with the Keith bullet for just general use with a powder that's available and that I already have a stock of. I like it in the 45acp and 10mm.

Dan Edit to add: This from a 5” S&W M27-2

Accuracy was horrible in two of my guns, not great in one, and a 2" at 25yds load in the 353. That FA 353 usually groups anything into less than an inch at twice that distance. However the same bullet is fair to good on Universal and 4227. The RCBS 38-150KT with aluminum plain base checks from a Mattesons check maker die out shoots it in everything I have tried it in, 38sp to 357 Maximum.
