Owner of a super red in 454 C with the gray satin finish. Shooting exclusive only powdercoated lead, the gun stays clean better than when shooting ordinary lubed cast bullets. But how to i clean the powder marks on cylinder? On the front and a bit on the sides too, what do i use as not to remove any finish on the sides of cylinder?

This stuff is amazing. Thank you! Can it be used on the outside of the cylinder without polishing the grey finish on the gun?

I have never had any issues with it removing any type of finish. Here is the face of a cylinder that I cleaned after several hundreds of rounds had been fired.

Does it work on blued guns without removing the blue?

The guy who did the action work on Freedom Arms revolvers told me to use an old toothbrush and Hoppes #9.

I've been using Never-Dull for several years now and it works really well. I've also used the toothpaste & toothbrush as mentioned above.

Let it build up, tightens tolerances.

On the target gray, I really don't recommend using the regular polishes. It that color from the polish process Ruger used. Products like Flitz, Never dull, etc. will all eventually change the gray to shiny polish.
Toothpaste is a much milder abrasive than any of those. It'll take a little more time, but will not brighten up the gray finish. I have also used it with a brass bristle brush instead of the toothbrush for heavier build up without changing the color.
