Just found out Doug Guy has stopped doing cylinder throat reaming due to health problems. Anybody know of anyone else who does this? That’s what I get for procrastinating… I do hope Doug is okay.

2dogs does excellent work. I can't tell the difference between their work, except Fermin doesn't do the throat angle change job for the Ruger 480.

I have one of the first run 480 Bisley's. I shoot almost exclusively cast out of it and have not run into the throat angle problem yet. I don't know what I'm doing wrong... If DougGuy is getting out of the throat business, maybe he would part with his custom reamer? When Ranger Rick stopped casting the Trex thumper, my son and I bought up many of his big bore molds. My son was around 11-12 at the time and wanted to start Little Lar's Big Bullets. I put him up a small website on our server and he did rather well for a few years until our shop fire happened.

I wasn't fortunate enough to get a 480 bisley when they were available. I have a 475 Linebaugh, but will get a 480 when they make another run.
The way He explained it to me was that he doesn't deepen the chamber but just changed the angle leading into the throats. It helped stop the lead rings from dual crimp groove bullets from remaining in the chamber.
480 brass won't seat in the tight Chambers of my 475 without a good bit of thumb pressure, and I haven't seen any lead pieces in the chambers, even from the Lee 400gr.

Doug did alot of things. Cut a few forcing cones and crowns on some of my guns. Rechambered two cylinders for me. Threaded some AR barrels. He did excellent work and is not far from me, so no shipping.
I wish him the best and hopefully he can recover. It just doesn't look good right now. It's a very debilitating illness. My prayers are with him and his family.

As “pleadthe2nd” has mentioned Doug stopped reaming cylinder throats some time ago. The science moved forward from simple reaming of years past. Although really for decades machined/bored/reamed holes have been finished honed. Sunnen hones are hardly new as older ones can be picked up for pennies on the dollar as manufacturing continues to do a face plant here in the US. I have benefited from Doug’s services although not to gloat - I should have sent him more. So throat reaming is good but a finish hone or lap is better. Not to deny that even reamed throats are batter than squishing lead bullets so they do not seal the bore. One can always have throats reamed and then finish lap on their own.

I think he was posting that Doug has stopped doing gun work altogether.
Doug has a form of Parkinson's disease that has effected his ability to stand and walk. He has been told there's no real medical treatment for it.
Please keep him in your prayers.

I did understand Doug was experiencing health troubles and that’s sad. Thanks for bringing it to the fore. I was attempting to add that he was more than simply reaming throats and probably had the most advanced service of it’s kind.
