I have a new to me 4-3/4” 454 that I’m really fond of. It started life as a 9” gun with a threaded version of the replaceable replaceable forcing cone, but went back to FA IN 2020 for the short tube and an action job.
So my dilemma is finding a nice pancake holster. I carry my 4-5/8” Ruger 480 in a cheap Azula pancake that needed a little wet re-forming to give a sight channel. I’m ashamed to admit how much I like this cheap holster. It is simple and the winning feature is that it really keeps the gun tight at your side even while doing some mild climbing and other adventurous stuff. I am just a fan of the pancake holsters in general. The widely spaced belt slots make for great stability. . My son hand stitched a pancake for my GP-100 in 44 special and it is my absolute favorite rig for social carry for all the same reasons, and it just disappears under an untucked T-shirt.
I’ve exhausted my Google skills and haven’t found what I’m looking for. Anyone know of a FA83 pancake? How about an opinion on wet forming another cheap Azula to the new gun? Lastly, do you have some other holster you love that I should take a closer look at for kicking around in the Rocky Mountains and occasionally the Georgia hardwoods?
Thanks for the suggestions.
Randy

I have a half pancake design from Randy Miller ( bigbore on here) that's really great for my 4.62" Blackhawk. Highest quality, but he gave me a very reasonable price considering it's a truly custom holster he put a bit of time into working with me to get the perfect cant and ride.

Another vote for Simply Rugged. The Sour Dough pancake sounds like what you're looking for. MTR makes a nice askins avenger style holster too. The avenger takes up less space on your belt.

Rob’s Sourdough is a great holster. I have used them with several guns.

Another vote for Simply Rugged...
One came with a 4.25" M97 I bought 20 years ago... Ended up purchasing an 83/6" a few years later...
Nice and simple and any fall that will dislodge the gun won't make a difference as you'll be dead anyway...

When I began carrying a Single Action, my first holster was Bob Mernickle's PS-6SA. This for daikly carry and not for rough country use, so no retention straps or thongs are used. Also the trigger is well above leather for qjuick access to the trigger. I liked this holster but as time went on it rode too high for my shoulder to get the gun out and I went to a more conventional holster. Before the outcry, I do use a snap strap for rugged country use. Bob Wright

A quality pancake or avenger style are my favorites for all day carry and comfort. Randy (BackCountry leather), or Simply rugged, my absolute favorite is a Rybka but he no longer makes holsters.

El Paso Saddlery also makes their #88 for single actions. I just ordered one for the Colt SAA during their summer 20% off sale.

So um “Thank you” to all you guys I guess?!? You cost me $300 today at Simply Rugged. He has great marketing between a 10% discount and free shipping over $200. By the time I got that figured out there was so much blood in the water I just snapped at everything that popped up on the screen.
Joking aside I ordered sourdough pancakes for 2 different FA guns, and since I recently broke the tongue (for the second time) on my 16 year old El Paso Saddlery belt I picked up a matching belt. For some reason the Oxblood just seemed right for this setup.
Now I have something to look forward to!
Appreciate the help.

You obviously take good care of your gear. Thanks for sharing. Randy
