Ground hog that is 🤪 45 yard shot with a GT 250gr LHP. Pushed to 1000 fps with a load of Power Pistol. Nothing like big game hunting in the summer time. Dan

Good shot! I’d like to know the load with Power Pistol and what primer?

Thanks Lefty. The load is 8.2 gr with a Federal 150 LP primer in Starline brass. Correction on bullet weight; The GT bullet is actually 255 grains.

The 4” M624’s were always difficult to find. I’ve had several 4” and 6-1/2” ones since the late 80’s. You can take deer cleanly with one loaded up. I found and used a 214 gr. Hollow point with a heavy charge of Unique to do very well at that.

The 4” M624’s were always difficult to find...
Believe it or not, in 1987, I bought a 4" 624, brand-new for $275.
It was (at first) the single most gratifying handgun purchase I'd ever made, yet the most miserable at the same time. It came with ten defects, which ranged from cosmetic to completely incapacitating the gun; loose front sight, REALLY rough recoil shield, lettering on the barrel could be read from the INSIDE as well as out,...
Sent it back and Smith fixed the barrel, made the recoil shield worse, filled the action with what looked like va,e-grinding compound, but the front sight was tight, so I fixed the rest and had me a wonderful little sixgun.
I just never got along with those big grips. That was early enough in my shooting "career" that I didn't even know about the smaller grips or grip adapters, which would have made a huge difference for me. So, I've let a 624 and a M25 in 45 Colt slip through my hands, mainly because of the large grips. Pun intended.
I'd gladly have the 624 back, as it was a pleasure to look at and shot very well. The 25 had grossly oversized chambers (as did my OM Blackhawk in 45 Colt) and I gave them up.
I surely wouldn't mind having that 624 back and I'd get some decent grips for it and be happy.
EDIT: I envy anyone who's had the sense to hang onto a 624.

I never had a problem with any 624 I’ve had. In fact the 6-1/2” ones are the most accurate revolvers I’ve ever shot. Results from that are completely unbelievable and were proven in front of witnesses at the time. I hope you locate anther one.

I bought one of the scarce Lou Horton 3" 624's about 20 years ago & it shot fabulous, only problem was one of my sons wouldn't stop pestering me about it, at least it went to a good home & he still has it. He even packed it in Alaska with the Keith cast bullet.

Nice shot on a nice varmint with a nice gun! Thank You! Those buggers tear up the creek banks with their dens causing erosion. I had one of the 3” guns in a 657 that was a literal “blast” to shoot. Let it go to a guy rounding out his collection of those guns. As cool as the 3”ers look I find I prefer the 4’s. Dan
