I ran across a 5.5" SS 44 mag Bisley BH at the LGS. Very nice fit and finish and a .004 b/c gap. I've been looking for a 45 Colt but this one has my attention at $899. I may just get it and if it doesn't shoot well as a 44, send it for a 45 conversion. Any thoughts on it? I am afflicted with the same virus. It would be much less expensive to pursue a nice factory 45, but I can easily rationalize buying something that is similar to, but not exactly the same as, what I really want simply because I can. I’ve also rationalized that a 44 can be linebored to a “perfect” 45. I won’t try to talk you out of that 44, as there are no flys on them. However, I would look for that nice 45 Colt, armed with a range rod and feeler gauge. The range rod is more important IMHO, as the b/c gap can be easily set back, and when properly done, will often correct the thread choke that I see in almost all Ruger single action barrels. Oversized cylinder latches can be employed to adequately adjust chamber Alignment, but not always. This is all very anal retentive, thinking though (another affliction). Opening cylinder throats and fire lapping can usually get you a pretty accurate gun, even if chamber alignment is less than optimal. I’m probably preaching to the quire, but you asked for advise..

I've certainly got a rep for showing up with range rods, pin and feeler gauges at my LGS. They grin and bear it. I like both calibers so I've got somewhere to go if I don't like the 44 - 45, not so much. I've been down that road a time or two. Being a perfectionist is quite the affliction. Thanks, man.

My new 4-5/8" NM Super BH, SS, Bisley, 44 Mag arrived yesterday from Lipsey's. Rust in the barrel. Immediately took a pic and emailed my rep. He called me within minutes and offered to call tag it but I wasn't worried. Hoppes #9 and a 45 cal bronze brush took it right out. Just wanted him to know incase somewhere between Ruger and me their might be something going on which exposed the handgun to the elements which could be avoided.
Trigger released at a pleasingly consistent 3.25 lbs. Of course it did have creep. Super happy all 6 cylinders accepted a .431" pin gage; nothing smaller....nothing larger. Throat ran .429 and loosened at the muzzle to .4296". Might take measurements again since I was in a hurry.
I've got an order in at work for all 3 types of Barnes Bullets loaded ammo. Vor-Tx and Pioneer lines of ammo both push a 225 gr XPB bullet to 1300 fps from a 6" barrel. The 3rd is the other Pioneer round pushing a 300 gr cup and core "Original" JHP at 985 fps from the same 6" barre. The Barnes Bullets 357 Mag ammo, Vor-Tx, Pioneer and Tac-XPD all shoot very well from my 50th Anniversary model so high hopes from theis 44 mag.

I have one of these that I got several months ago. They are very nice and seem to be hard to come by and limited production. Tyler Gunworks has one on their website right now that just appeared if you want one. Recommend you act swiftly if you want one because they are not regular production and prior to this run, I think it was at least 10-20 years ago when Accusport ran a distributor exclusive.
I had Tyler upgrade my gun and it's perfect. It's a great size in a super cartridge that you can load at a wide range of velocities.

FWIW; The original AccuSport 44M 5.5” Bisley were mfg & shipped in 2002.
The new/recent run thru Lipsey’s are starting to show up.
I suspect they will be highly sought after and won’t last long.

Tylerized Bisley 44 Magnum, Upgraded sights, action & accuracy package, fitted grips...just the basics for a good shooter! As I mentioned above, if you buy it from Tyler, nice thing is you can have them make these upgrades before you get it and you save all of the hassle of having to send it out a second time. It's all ready to go when you get it!
