Hunters Supply has a good bullet available for the 405 WCF. HUEY: HOW FAST CAN YOU PUSH THESE BULLETS? The website says they've pushed them to 2000 fps. Of course, we know all this varies from gun to gun. I'm fixing to order some of their 25-20 and 327 Federal Bullets to farther progress my Rook Rifle Exploits.

Professor: HOW FAST CAN YOU PUSH THESE BULLETS? Not sure. Your rifle will decide. I would think they are hard enough to drive pretty hard as long as they fit your barrel dimensions well.

I HAVE PLENTY OF HORNADY AMMO LOADED WITH THE 300gr FP, A BULLET THAT MAY NOW BE DISCONTINUED, AND I AM LOOKING FOR A BACK-UP PLAN TO POSSIBLY START RELOADING BEFORE I USE UP MY FACTORY AMMO. HOPING TO MOVE MY REPRO '95 IN 405 SINCE I AM ACQUIRING A RUGER No. 1 IN 405.
IN CAST BULLETS I WOULD PREFER A GC'ed AND PC'ed BULLET.

Rey, Hornady still makes the 300 grn SP for the 405 Winchester.
There's also Hawk and Barnes Bullets that work great in the 405 Win.

This offering from Montana Bullet Works looks like a nice bullet. Montana Bullet Works uses our Commercial Grade 160 bullet lube which is good for atleast 2500fps. There are a lot of variables that go into pushing cast bullets fast... Some of our lubes have been pushed over 3000fps and left a clean barrel. They have this bullet listed with a hardness of Bhn22, so it should be hard enough for almost anything that the 405 can dish out. It has a quality lube and a gas check, so that should help with accuracy and not leading or fouling if the fit to the throat and barrel are good. They list a wide range of diameters, so I would do a chamber cast to see what the throat and groove dimensions are... The people at Hunters Supply are great to deal with. I have shot a bunch of their bullets, but have not tried the slick coat yet. I bought some of their 9.3 bullets for my 9.3x57. It was a gas check design without a gas check. I found that accuracy was much better with a 9.3 Gator check crimped on.
