The Inn we go to in the north side of the Allegheny Nat'l Forest went to electric fencing for the Inn's restaurant/lounge big dumpster. The number of bears seen is definitely down. It was fun but they were gonna run outta luck sometime.

Funny enough I tried my hand at my own "bear proof" cans, they didn't work. But this is the culprit, this is a few years ago and a different house that I was at the time that constantly had bears in the neighborhood. They captured this one eventually and he turned out to be around 400 lbs by their judgements. www.youtube.com/shorts/3JbDUeQ7bNY

We have bears all over my area,, (WNC) and a true "bear proof" garbage can is expensive. I've seen several similar to the one in your video. And yes,, the bears can & will get into them. It's funny you mention all this. Where I live,, we hunt. The bears seem to know this & choose to utilize other areas most often. In all my time here,, I've only had bears get into my garbage twice. Once was the night before last. And it wasn't a big bear,, about 200#-300#. Of course,, it was because of all the "sweet" containers in the trash. Now,, just a few miles away,, where they are NOT hunted,, LOTS more bear/garbage issues.
(Gone fishing yet?)

We are going to try are hand tomorrow. We have a crap load of bears around Tallahassee that have lost all fear of people since the FWC won’t stand up to the bunny huggers and tell them to go pound sand. Growing up we had a bear season up until 85 or 86. They tried it again a few years ago and killed some in limited areas of the state. The suckers are everywhere. We used to get 911 calls because they were in the city limits all the time

Saw a video short recently of a plastic residential trash can with a motion sensing Billy Bass singing/moving fish plaque mounted to it.
It scared the bear away.
Cannot find the video again.

Cades Cove was crawling with them a few weeks ago. They are pretty brave around Pigeon Forge. Hotel parking lots are a good place to go bear hunting.
