I want to play with the .50 Bowen Spl round and see how far I can push it and still be useful as a field gun with the old standard Colt style XR3 & XR3-RED grip frames. I can't remember where, but I remember some guys talking about Ross Seyfried doing a 385 grain bullet of some sort ahead of either 11 or 12 grains of Unique etc. I've looked online and can't get any articles he did on the .50 Bowen to come up, so HEEEELP...! If anybody has them, or knows what old magazines I can buy to get them I'd like to have them, or at least know where to go online to read them if possible.

There is some data in”The Custom Revolver”- says “The standard loading at Bowen Classic Arms is 10 grains of Unique powder and a CCI 300 primer under an old NEI Handtools, Inc. brand 350-grain, round-nose, cast bullet that is .511 in diameter…”. This gives 800 fps. H110 or ww296 can run 350-400 grain bullets to 1,000-1,100fps but no load data given. I checked my list of Seyfried articles that were provided by a member here years ago but didn’t find a .50 special write up.

I have all the data that Bowen keeps from JT.
Who puts out the info on load data . com ?
I will have to dig harder on the Seyfried articles I guess. I'm having no luck finding them via internet search.

Someone posted a ton of Seyfried articles which were a series of links in this forum. I can't remember how long ago it was posted but it was quite comprehensive. I'm guessing there would be something in there.
Loadata.com is managed by Wolfe publishing. All the load data I've ever seen come straight from load manuals, articles published in hand loader, rifle magazine and I believe the websites like Hodgdon that has load data.

The 50 Special load data on loaddata.com came from Handloader magazine issue 155. Wolfe Publishing does sell back issues for around $10 or so.

Here's the load info from the article... Note the term "anti-magnum". Why hot rod it?

Bushog, that's the article I'm looking for. I've never used Unique, but looks like a good time to try it. What magazine is it in, and what year and month?
