Mine is a MUCH later Outdoorsman. Nice gun but by then it was really outshone by the models 27 and 28. By then it was probably an awfully hard gun to sell or justify. The Heavy Duty and the OutdoorsMan were made from the early 1030s until 1966. The 357, was introduced in 1935. It became the Model 27, by decree, in 1957. The Higway Patrolman was introduced sometime in the 1950s. Both of the 357 Magnums cost more than either of the 38/44 Models. There was enough difference in cost that many of the 38/44 revolvers were converted to the magnum cartridge by having the chambers deepened to accept the longer cartridge. But, in reality, the 38/44 was plenty of cartridge for any need. Kevin
