Apples and oranges but I have a Burris 2.5x scout scope sitting around and nothing to put it on at the moment. I had been thinking about getting a Marlin 1894 SBL .44 magnum when I came across a Rossi R95 stainless .30-30 in a similar configuration except for a 20 inch barrel. The .30-30 gives me a little more range but I do have a crap load of .44 mag ammo around. I know I don’t NEED (what is that word anyway?) either one and one of the reasons I want one is to send it to The Arms Room to make into a takedown. I don’t know how much hunting I will do with either one since I have switched almost entirely to handguns and the .250 Savage or .30-06 will cover anything else. Might just be a fun gun. Sadly I am obsessed with the idea of a takedown with a scout scope

I had more fun with the iron sights. Point is, the take-down feature doesn’t interfere with mounting a short eye relief scope. For this shooter, SMOOTH FEED is the blood flow of a lever action. Well,...
I don't need a 30/30 lever action. I really don't even have a desire for one, except,...
When Rossi announced the R95, and I went and took a look - wow! I LIKE that. I don't NEED one, and don't even really WANT one, or didn't until I saw that.
After buying one of their new revolvers recently, I'd jump on the R95. I don't like their parts policy, but if the revolvers are indicative of what their levers wil be like, this revolver shames both the Rugers and S&Ws I have been seeing on the shelf as of late.

May have had this conversation with Ronnie Wells and John Parker... seems nuts that a modern-strength lever action hasn’t been designed with a lifter which raises a cartridge from the magazine in a straight line----ala Winchester Model 1873----to chamber the cartridge to the bore axis. This would accommodate straight cases. A tapered case facilitates smooth feeding, feeding into dirty chambers, and extraction with soft brass. A tilted lifter much prefers to feed a tapered case. LOOKED AT THE ROSSI R95 30-30 ON GUNBROKER, A MARLINESQUE, RIGHT HANDSOME, RIFLE WITH THE 20" BARREL, BUT THE 16.5" TRAPPER MODEL WITH THE BIG LOOP LEVER LOOKS OUT OF PROPORTION, AM THINKING IT WOULD LOOK A LOT NICER WITH A REGULAR LEVER, AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT ON BOTH MODELS.

Looked at a 20” version in my LGS and it was a lot smoother than a 1884 and 1895 they had (all new). The regular lever gave me more room than the 1894 (obviously) the 1895 was the SBL version. I liked it and the wood wasn’t too bad and the stippling or roughening instead of checkering was pretty cool.
