In January 2014 I decided to order my first Freedom Arms. I'd be turning 50 that August, so I figured a fitting milestone. Wayne Baker assured me it would arrive in time, but ended up being a few months late. All is well that ends well.
I vowed to buy one a year following that, but am one behind. Foolishly, I let a friend talk me out of one.
This year, I'll turn 60. So, I decided my first Octagon Barrel FA was in order.
My FA83 454 Casull is scoped, so I used that as an excuse to add another one.
Used, but in 100% new condition. More after Tim posts pictures...

Thanks Tim...
This gun is just as I'd have built it. I may have added an overtravel screw. But, with the 6" Express Sight Setup, it probably wasn't needed.
Price was neither a steal or highway robbery. After getting the information from the box label, it was in hand for $1900 under FA Factory Cost. Time lapse from purchase to being in hand was six days.
All comments and suggestions appreciated...

Wow, that one is amazing, love the 6" octagon barrel, and the condition, makes me wonder if it's even been shot, let us know how the express sights work for you, and congratulations

Thanks Trent. It's a curiosity, but I have no insight into the gun's history.
This is my second FA 454 Casull. Also, I have two FA97s in 45 Colt.
Interestingly, two would chamber 45 Schofield while the other two would not due to the slightly larger rims.
I had Clements open the rim recesses in the second 97. So, it now fires 45 Schofield with amazing accuracy.
This one might get some mods. But, won't be modified to shoot 45 Schofield.

My first and still favorite 83 is a 6 inch octagon with black micarta. I think it fits the frame proportions nicely.
Congrats on a nice piece at a good price.

That's probably their most universal and useful revolver as a 6" 454 and the octagon is the bonus. I have it's less sophisticated brother (round barrel) and love it. The octagon barrels are fantastic and personally I do like the recssed crown on the octagon barrels.
Something tells me you'll get suggestions for a 41.

I'll agree that the 454 Casull is the most universal and useful revolver cartridge available "IF" you're a handloader.
I've got zero interest in a FA83 41 Magnum. That being said, if the price was right...
A 357 Magnum and 475 Linebaugh both are strong possibilities.

Agreed on the handloading for the 454.
I don't own a 41 but know many are a big fan of the FA 41. I want to see what the 357 will do. But personally I would scope the 357 and leave the 475 with irons.

So many good choices, such little time. I am just glad to have my Huntington modified BFR in 500 JRH, but you Freedom Arms guys always do a great job of tempting us all to get an FA. Can't say I blame you one bit.

Jeff, you're neither under gunned or outclassed with a BFR. They are simply excellent revolvers with the 500 JRH being the best of the bunch.
I'm currently upgrading a BFR 357 Magnum and quality is outstanding.

My situation is similar to yours, I vowed to buy two Freedom Arms every year before my 16 year old goes to college, then that’s it until my 12 year old graduates. I’ve been lucky and blessed to provide and save for the family and scratch my gun itch but soon it will be 100% kids focused. until then I want FA 97 in 17 HMR, FA 97 in 224-32. After those two, a M83 in 41 magnum with a 5 inch barrel and FA 97 in 357 in 7.5 in barrel. Maybe I’ll make it. i already own FA 97 in 22LR, 327 Federal, 357 mag, 41 mag, 44 special, (2) 45 colts, In FA 83, 500 WE, 475, 454, and 44 mag.

I've focused mostly on FA97s. This makes my second FA83, both in 454 Casull. The first, also used, is described here... singleactions.proboards.com/thread/37495/fa-83-old-newI'm 2 behind on my plan, but hardly deprived. I'll continue to look for great guns at reasonable prices...

My one & only FA is a 10" octagon & is a twin to John Taffin's gun, built the same day. I would like to pair it up with a 5"-6" model 97 in 44 special or 45 colt but that wait time isn't getting any shorter & I'm not getting any younger.

This was my 9th FA and only one was bought new. Several were unfired, but 8 were used.
They're extremely easy to refinish, even upgraded, since stainless is easy to work.
I plan on adding more, but likely will be more used or ready to ship.
Dick, the two you named are absolutely the best of the bunch. Go For It!!!
