Ok. I'm gonna do it. BFR No. 5 in 500 linebaugh. Banana grip. Standard round barrel.
The pics and reviews here finally convinced me to pull the trigger on this bad boy. Been waffling on this one for a few years now.
The question becomes this: barrel length. What is a good barrel length to go with this one?

For a 500 Linebaugh, I prefer 5”-6”.

WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO WITH IT? WILL YOU USE OPTICS OR OPEN SIGHTS? FOR HUNTING, ESPECIALLY WITH OPTICS, YOU MAY WANT A LONGER BARREL. FOR BELT CARRY, AND USING OPEN SIGHTS, ME, I AM PARTIAL TO 5.5" REVOLVERS.

Another vote for 5-6" with 5 1/2" being just about perfect.

I had mine cut down to 5” and really like the feel.

The 5-1/2" version I have gets far more use than the others in 500L. The balance is perfect and it's still belt carriable. It's also the quickest on follow up shots for me. The 5" and 6-1/2" versions are also good. The 9" is just too long with no real gains. Too unwieldy for a mere 100fps over the 5-1/2"

BFR is a fine gun, they make a fine product and having met Brett Pikula as a rep for that company I’d say they have a culture built there that is open minded and creative and fills a void between full custom and factory SA’s. They allow the average guy to have a gun with the legendary Linebaugh name/ cartridge. You cannot go wrong with any of the guns made there (well they can keep stretch frames)… but that is my opinion and it’s just that.
However, they couldn’t get a barrel measurement right if their mom’s life depended on it. I’m not sure why but that’s true as the blue sky…
My 5.5 is cut at the ejector rod flush…. That’s what I wanted but you’ll need to be very specific with them.
I’ve adopted this practice in measuring my own rod from my butthole. I’m a more confident 50 yr old because of it.

Another for the 5-6 inch. If I am going long with a big handgun I'll grab my .480 SRH that is scoped. The .500 seems to be a useful tool for hitting critters with a barn door at close range. 100 yards and under and a 5" barrel will do that just fine.

I have a BFR in 500JRH with a 5.5 inch octagon barrel. I just got it back from Jack Huntington. It has a 2nd generation Ultradot 2moa dot, 30mm tube in silver on it, steel warn rings, and scope mount modified for better fit with a total of 4 screws to keep it put, and black anodised. I would highly suggest you send your BFR to Jack Huntington with an outlined trace of your shooting hand, and he will both make that Bisley grip wider to fit your hand better and absorb recoil. He can also re work the trigger guard so it is rounded instead of squared off looking, and do an action job/trigger job for you. Mine has his suggested 1.5 - 2.0 pound trigger pull, because when you re holding on hard to this gun, the light trigger pull won't torque the gun when you shoot. You should really give him a call. It is about $650 for the custom grips/grip frame mod and maybe #350 for the other stuff he did for my gun. You will be glad you did. His number is (775) 355- 6898. Just give him a call to set up an appointment call for you if he's too busy working at the moment. You will love his work. And you might come up with a mod that I haven't thought of yet, and Jack can do it for you.

Been waffling on this one for a few years now. The question becomes this: barrel length. What is a good barrel length to go with this one? The black micarta grips look especially good on this gun. The standard white plastic grips are prone to cracking. It's an uncharge, but with micarta you shouldn't have that problem. Have you ordered your gun already? They will let you make changes to it early on. Jeff
