So...several weeks ago I received a package from BCA with what is in the running for the PPP. Years ago I sent a pile of barrels to Hamilton to be re-bored with the assurance that he would complete the builds with them even though he no longer offers S&W work in the BCA catalog. I sent this pile of parts for the project. On his old website gallery there was a photo of a 5 shot .44 Special mountain gun that really had my interest and truthfully, got me interested in this whole custom revolver hobby in general. I do have the Ti cylinder fitted for it but haven't bothered to install as it shoots great as is ans I'm not worried about an ounce of weight. The grips are holly and done by Jim Culina. These guns do need to be shot with care and loads kept to 18.500 PSI. Brian Pierce wrote a great article about " Loading the S&W 696 and 396" in Handloader 293 that addresses suitable load levels for this revolver. Bowen built .44sp L-frame mountain gun.... Here it is with it's "little" brother. Hard to tell which is more loveable. The .44sp weighs .12oz more and has 5 shots, 250gr bullets at 850fps or so. The .41sp will hold 6 rounds and 220gr bullets at around 950fps. I'll keep 'em both for a while...

Good lookin’ carry guns, they both need some blood on them.

I think General Patton would have been jealous of some of bushogs guns!

Gorgeous revolvers, both! And two great calibers, too.

Those guns remind me I need to finish the grips on the 41 Special Model 58 mountain gun when I get home. I want to see if the combat style grip frame will let me shoot if without killing the thumb joint or not.

I think the gun you referred to was one that Michael Bane had Bowen build him 15-20 years ago.
I think it would make a marvelous gun myself, personally Id like it in blue a touch better but that's a personal taste thing.
I still want that little Bowen 327 of yours, 2 cylinders with it last year and I am still smitten...

Super cool. I really like the lil .44 those grips look great. Surprised you didn't chamfer the cylinder. Maybe when you're done with it you can send it here if it isn't spoken for already and I'll get it chamfered. Was just reading the article he did on his perfect mountain gun (full size N Frame few nights ago). Great idea and turned out slick.

I’ve been looking for one of those late model square butt 629s for years…. I have the .44 Mtn gun barrel to do the project.

Yah. That's a tough one to find apparently. I did some digging around the other night again and didn't see a single one for sale anywhere.

Wonderful!
I much prefer the K/L grip frame size over the N frame's.
A great pairing!
Kudos!!
