Very sad news. As good a human as he was a handgun hunter.

Well there are big game animals the world over who will breath a sigh of relief, he was one hard hunting, and successful hunter for sure.
I spoke to him quite a few times, he bought many of my targets back in the day, and was always a gentleman to me. Spoke to him a few weeks ago in fact.
He will be missed.

Really shocking news! Too me at least Mark Hampton was the best hand gun hunter in the world. I know there are a lot of great ones but Mark Hampton hunted places that almost seemed impossible to get in to. He liked to hunt high mountain animals that discouraged most people just because of the rugged terrain & the crazy amount of planning & paper work involved. Many times Karen would go with him & they spent a lifetime pursuing the wild sheep & mountain goat species of Asia & Europe. I believe Mark made something like 37 trips to Africa, many trips to Alaska, dozens of states here in the US & a lot of countries I can't even spell. A few years ago Mark flew into Boise, Idaho where I picked him up & we spent a week bear hunting. You learn a lot about a person when you spend a week hunting with them. I've never met a more ethical, good man than Mark Hampton. He was humble, in amazing condition & everyday was an enjoyable day on the mountain for him. It wasn't so much about getting a bear, Mark has taken many bears, it was the hunt that mattered & make no mistake Mark was there to hunt, plus he liked my rice flour pancakes! I've been blessed to meet some of the finest hand gun hunters in the world, Mark Hampton stands at the top of the mountain, condolences to Karen & his family.

Having spent time around the campfire with them ( Karen always by his side) phone calls talking reloading, enjoying guns, designing portable shooting platforms, Cape buffalo hunting, sable, kudu, just visiting, it’s devastating news. Heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the family. You will be sorely missed my friend. The world has lost a true gentleman, and the grandest Handgun Hunter of all. Enjoy your new Happy Hunting Grounds, finally a location you haven’t hunted till now.

I was informed early this morning by Karen. I had her blessing to write this up.
Feel free to share it around. I hope I did his memory well in the write up.

Oh my gosh - horrible news. Does anyone know what happened? Yes. It’s summed up in the article the best way I think it could be for the internet.

Obituary: Mark Hampton
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mark Hampton. Mark suffered a heart attack while on a hunting trip in Tanzania on Sunday morning, June 23.
Mark was a Life Member of Safari Club International, where he served with distinction as Record Book Committee Co-Chairman, Asia Subchair, and Record Book Handgun Consultant. His contributions to the organization and the hunting community were invaluable.
Mark's dedication, leadership, mentorship, and selflessness will be greatly missed. We ask that you keep Mark’s wife, Karen, in your prayers during this most difficult time. More information regarding services will be forthcoming.
Mark Hampton's legacy of dedication and passion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. This is a email sent by SCI.....
