I inherited an Intercontinental Arms Inc Dakota 357 mag with a 4” barrel. Functions and has been shot in past 6 months (with 357 and 38’s). Looks like it was made in 1964 (year stamped on it) but the roman numerals indicate 1963? This is my first revolver, not first firearm. I was only able to find one video of it being used, in which when the hammer is pulled all the way back it is able to be lowed. In mine I have to pull the trigger and slowly lower the hammer to keep the firing pin safe. Looking for any more info on the firearms as I can get. Guessing this one was made by Uberti based on the article on this site. Does this copy the Colt Peacemaker? If I’m in need of parts what should I be looking for as I know many parts of clones could possibly be interchangeable. I am looking for a spare firing pin (and info on how to change it when needed). Recommended any accessories like moon clips, spare revolver cylinder, tools? This might lead down the dangerous path of learning to reload 357/38’s….dont tell the wife. I’m excited to take this to the range.

I don't have much for you except to say, the 1964 is not the DOM, it is the serial number.

Nice looking revolver, but the only thing I can add is that moon clips aren’t used in a single action to my knowledge. The .38s and .357s don’t need them and you would have to pull the cylinder each time to load and unload if you had a 9mm cylinder built for it. The 9mm cartridges would headspace on the case mouth without the need for moon clips. You might (probably ?) wouldn’t even have room for them between the cylinder and the recoil shield. Good luck, you have a nice piece.

It’s a Jager. It’s basically a Colt pattern replica, but like the early Uberti’s, screws are metric.
If a mainspring, sear spring, or cylinder bolt breaks, you’ll probably be able to get this gun up and running with current replica parts.
If you wear out a hammer or hand, it’s going to take some mild to major fab modding to fix it.

Made by Armi Jager. Imported through Intercontinental Arms. The first handgun I ever hunted with was a Dakota .357 5.5". Not an exact Colt Copy but a few of the parts interchange. Those guns have a very weak trigger/bolt spring. Wolf makes a good wire replacement that will drastically improve the reliability and function of the gun. Its a better .38 than it is a .357. These guns are not made to be pushed. The original one that my morther bought in 1964 was stolen in the early 80s. I hunted down a replacement for that gun a few years ago. It just has the Armi Jager markings. If you handload a 158 Nosler JHP over 10.5 grains of AA#7 in .357 brass will shoot great from and is very close to the fixed sight aiming point and it and wont beat the gun up. As Sack said parts pretty much have to be made or fixed. Very fun gun though. Here is the replacement for the stolen gun.

I know the firing pin has been replaced, not sure when. As I understand they can break easy. Thanks for the info. I'd be willing to upgrade the spring, should I just get the one for the Colt then?

Good that it is already replaced. The firing on for these guns is pretty easy to make. By all means shoot it. They are fun guns. 148gr .38 Wadcutters shoot really well out of them.

Sounds like good advice. Would make a great small critter gitter!
