I just ordered one of Ronnie’s aluminum grip frames for an OMSBH. The plan is a LW 45Colt with a long cylinder from a maximum, 4 5/8” SW barrel, alum. gripframe, round butted with my take on lanyard retention, ill check with Jack and try and get a misdrilled Behlert Ruger rear sight corrected for use if it’s cost effective. The misdrilled part is where the pin goes through, it’s slightly off. Hopefully micro welding can fix the issue, because it’s a very nice sight, similar to the Bowen target.

I just got my flattop 44 special to the shoot and sand stage. I went with his original colt style bisley frame with his really nice random walnut stocks. I did the aluminum frame also. I wanted to get everything balanced better the factory steel frame made it very heavy for a working six gun and awkward. Normally I can do pretty good with the colt style plow grip but the xr3 was not working for me too hard to keep consistent. Now let me tell you this new one from Ronnie is perfection. The length is perfect not obtrusive. The weight is wonderful it hangs on my belt nice. The flare at the bottom of the grip keeps my hand naturally pulling the muzzle down during recoil and the backstrap evenly distributed the recoil energy and allows just a little muzzle rise that is easily controlled by the fingers increasing their grip under recoil. It's just a genius design. I find this stuff fascinating, the mechanics and relationship of cause and effects. Hope you are as impressed with your grip as I am with mine. Good luck and I am excited for your new project.

BBD, what grip style / name did you get?
I have held his Potatojudge, Dealer, Bisley+ and a couple others I cant remember. They are all perfect. The PJ is about the perfect hunting grip, the Dealer the perfect carry grip and the Bisley+ is for hard hitting (kicking) magnums. I cant wait to get back to see him and see what he is working on now.

How long does it take to get an ordered grip frame from Ronnie now?

Trey, it’s an OM so I went with a standard Bisley, not many options for OM guns. Jack will work his magic on the frame anyway.

Lefty sixgun,my frame took a few months to get. Because I am one of those people that nothing normal ever fits everything that works for me is special order. My boots are White's,my hat is custom made and fits like a glove for the last 20 plus years. So you can see where I'm going. The frame I picked was one not as popular as his potato judge and others he had to update the design and geometry. And he had to stabilize another batch of walnut. And believe me it was worth the wait.I will definitely be doing it again soon as I figure out what direction I want to go, either a 357 for long range or a 22 for squirrels

So I see a lot of references to using the cylinder from a maximum, what advantages does using the longer cylinder have over the stock length? Just the ability for heavier longer bullets? Do you plan on using a different twist? It really sounds like an interesting build

1873, the longer cylinder has a couple of uses, some purely aesthetic. Yes it allows longer OAL rounds and to some, me included, a filled cylinder hole with little barrel intrusion looks really nice. It allows this without the cost of a custom cylinder, plus fluted if that is a desire as well.

A change of plans due to an unexpected find. I located a SW57 barrel and contacted Jack this morning wanting to make sure I could get 5” from the 6” barrel. So everything will stay the same except it will be a 41mag, which I actually like better since I already have several 45 colts that fit that size and intended use. But no 41mag in the midsize general field/hunting use genre. Even as a 5” it will wear a full length ERH, using a shortened Maximum ERH.

That's going to be a very nice revolver. A very useful package

You know I dig on a 41 Magnum! Great choice.
