My Ruger african 223 came in today. Its a sweet looking rifle. Didnt figure on owning one, but nobody bid this one up on gunbroker last week. New in box. It looks good next to my 35 whelen african. I think these are 1 in 9 twist .

Those are wonderfully elegant rifles! Shooting a 416 Rigby or 458 Lott these days would be cost-prohibitive, so the paradoxical "varmint chambering" make a LOT of sense. I'd have never have thought of it, but it's such a neat idea.
You'll also be well fitted out for a real live Cape Prairie-Dog hunt, should you get the chance.

It's just SO damned cool!
I love the format - especially the sights. Why not chamber it for something you can USE and use a LOT?
Very cool idea.

I saw that one, and noticed it was probably you bidding on it based on your g-broker name. You stole it. That one has wood with some figure. Congrats. I want one someday, or one of the Kimber of Oregon 223 rifles with a quarter rib.

Ive been playing with 35 Whelen and 375 H&H too much to have time for anything else.

My rifle seems to like 69gr bullets. 75s are ok, but at 200yds Im having better shooting with 69gr.

Ruger makes great barrels! Sounds like you’ve got yourself a shooter, and it’s quite a looker to boot! I’m jealous. Congrats!
My Ruger American has a 1:8” twist and shoots the Berger 77’s very well. However, my general purpose varmint load is a 55g Sierra BK over 26.8 grains of Varget (I use a drop tube to load it, and it’s still compressed). A good friend of mine came up with that load, and it’s a super accurate coyote smoker! Until a few years ago , I would have said it’s a long distance coyote smoker, but it seems 400 yards isn’t considered long distance by a lot of folks anymore. It’s still about as far as I’ll shoot at anything, with any rifle, and my limit for deer and such is about 300. I hear you can hunt deer in Texas, and some other states, with a 223. The whitetails in Callahan county (TX) were barely big dog size when I was a kid, and a 223 would have worked great. I’ve read that the 62g partition works pretty well on dear and hogs, and would stabilize fine in that African.

Much heavier than typical 223 rifle. I want to find a m77 hawkeye lightweight 223. I just like Rugers in general.

The outfitter I used to work for in South Africa has one of those. It's his favorite baboon infestation solver. Things are everywhere and can get aggressive.

Wonderful rifle!
I’ve read that a safari shooting school here in the US asked for these to help students build skills with less pain in their shoulders and wallet.
Personally I’d like a matched set of a .308 Winchester and .375 Ruger in those lovely rifles.

They have made “RS” version, in the past, which are about the same thing.
