I am interested in converting an 1885 Highwall to 500 Smith & Wesson. What I have to have someone just make one of these, or can an extractor for a different round be modified to work? The rim is slightly thinner and not as wide across as a 45-70, so I’m thinking maybe an ‘06 extractor can be modified, but I’m not sure. Any suggestions?

I think any smaller extractor can be cut to accommodate it. Should be easy for whoever does the conversion.
When JES does a rebore he recuts the extractor.
In fact I have a octagon barreled No 1 in 6.5x55 I'll probably have him do jus that to, but I can't decide on a chambering- 475 or 500 Linebaugh, the Linebaugh Longs, 50 AK...
Anyway, it shouldn't be a big deal once you've sourced an extractor cut for a smaller round.
