Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting up with John for some relaxation time chasing deer around in Oklahoma prior to us all making the trip to Clarksville, AR for the Spring CSA shoot. I took along a few sixguns that I wanted him to look at and they all traveled back to AL with him when he returned. One in particular was a beautiful 5.5" barreled bisley chambered in 41 magnum. This one was one of the early fluted 7.5" bisleys that had been shortened and worked over several years ago. The action was very nice and the stocks were stunning (Walnut from Mr. Fishpaw) but the trigger pull was not really consistent. One time, the pull would be wonderful, the proverbial glass rod and the next time, it would have a lot of creep. I showed it to John and he noticed immediately what I was talking about. When he explained it, it made perfect sense. Well, John worked his magic on it and it arrived back home today. To say I'm pleased would be a huge understatement. He hand filed the ratchet where the trigger pull would be the same on every pull. Its amazingly smooth and the action is even better than before. While he had it, he also cut spacers for the trigger and hammer pins to help take up the slack in the action. It locks up very nice and tight now. John also removed the barrel warning and opened the throats up to the proper size. They were originally .409 and then blued her all back up again. The test target shows that it really liked the work. 5 shots at 25 yards in 1.3" center to center. 4 of the 5 in .65" ctc and 3 of the 5 in .4" ctc. I think it shoots better now because its happy John took the paragraph off the side of the barrel I think its safe to assume that it will outshoot me pretty easily.
John's action work is pure magic and if you haven't tried one of his custom guns, you're really missing out. He is a true Southern gentleman and just a fun guy to be around and talk with. He is a hunter and shooter so he knows what works and what doesn't. I've been nothing but impressed by his work and have enjoyed "working" on projects with him. If you are looking to have some work done or have finally decided to move forward with the custom project that you have been thinking about, give him a shout, you will not be disappointed.

Here is the 41:
Here is another one of Gallagher's creations that I'll report on later. Its a 10" 445 Supermag that I'm hoping to test out on an unsuspecting hog or ram in the near future. I had a chance to shoot this one already during CSA and can tell you it hits like a hammer on the other end, I'm really optimistic about using it in the field. Better pictures and more on this one later.....
