Shoot one once and it won't be an "almost". I have shot them. Not a fan of the grip frame. Craig, I see you are not a fan of the grip frame on the BFR. That is why I sent my gun to Jack Huntington with a hand trace so he could make grips custom fitted to my hands. I highly suggest you do the same. He can add other useful touches as well, such as a 1.5 pound trigger pull that he put on mine. When you are holding a revolver with a lot of grip tension, more poundsge in the trigger might cause you to torque the shot, or rather, put unintentional torque on the revolver thus throwing the shot off course.

I made an off the cuff comment, because the OP has a really nice custom BFR. Don't really want to derail the thread or get into a long discussion about this. I hunt with Jack, have two of his Best Grade customs, one of which is a .500JRH, plus a Bisley Single Six he tuned and stocked, two Dan Wessons he worked on, with an Old Model .44 Special on the way. Has nothing to do with the grip panels. I don't like the BFR grip frame, among other things and custom grips won't change that.

That will be a great hunting gun, should take care of anything south of a t-rex. I really like those grips. Thanks! Jack Huntington uses a hand trace you send him, stretches the grip frame accordingly, and shapes the wood to your hand plus wider than factory grips to help spread out recoil. He does top notch work and as much as you like those grips, the left side has even more figure than the right side. I will have to post pics of it. I also removed the front sight to see what it looks like without it and I think it looks better with the black front sight on it. Plus, if I ever take the scope and base off the gun, all I have to do is reinstall the rear sight instead of both. Hard to loose the front sight when it's already on the gun.

That octagon barreled one has caused me many sleepless nights trying to figure out how I can duplicate it. I might be mistaken, but that one with the stainless octagon barrel looks like it has Jack Huntington's Ruger No.1 front site on it, which I think he takes a Freedom Arms front side and bevels or counters the shape at the rear of the blade.
