A number of months ago a gentleman decided to let his USFA Rodeo Shopkeeper be rehomed. While USFA Rodeos are not that uncommon, the Shopkeeper style are few and far between. What differentiates the Shopkeeper from the Sheriffs models is typically the addition of the ejector rod assembly which is deleted on the Sheriff models. I was fortunate enough many years ago to find a non Rodeo version of the Shopkeeper with a factory bisley spurred hammer, coloring by Turnbull and which I sent to Rob Rowen for a nice set of walnut grips. While the Rodeos are built to the same quality standards as the regular USFA guns they do lack the hand finish on the metal surfaces and feature a matte finish. Not being a big fan of the matte finish nor the regular hammer I had the gun shipped straight to Alan Harton with the request to fit a Pony Express hammer by Pietta and to polish and re-blue to a normal blued finish. When I visited Alan a month or so ago I took a piece of English walnut I got from Steven Dodd Hughes and Alan helped me make a set of one piece grips for the gun that same day. A few days ago Alan contacted me and let me know the finish work and action work was done and SEND MONEY! I was able to pick it up today so it got the obligatory moss picture before it was logged in. I showed my wife the little gun and mentioned that those were the grips Alan and I did that day and as I held the gun I realized this was a perfect example of the discussion on another thread about looking at ones work up close! These things need to come back off and get fit to the grip frame better!
