I got my new suppressor in the other day and since my 1977 Blackhawk is down right now, I thought it would be a good time to revisit my sub-sonic 308 loads. Since all my major books and notes are all packed up in storage, I grabbed my Chrony (still cant believe I found it) and set to it. In my head I remembered using Red Dot powder and amazingly actually found it. I did spend the better part of the morning finding my 308 dies. They were in the middle of my reloading table. The bullets were cast up years ago, powder coated, sized and ready to load. My range is about 40 feet above sea level and temperature was 93 degrees. I started at 10 grains and worked down .2 grains at a time and fired 5 rounds each load to get an idea of ES / SD. Final load data follows.
Norma cases Sellior and Bellot Large Rifle Magnum Primers 8.0gr Red Dot. No fillers. NOE 247 grain bullet OAL: 2.821" Bullet length: 1.346" 1064 fps average for 5 rounds ES: 12 fps SD: 5 fps
This was fired in an accurized Remington 700. 16.25" barrel. Mcmillan stock. Suppressor was an AB Multi-cal overrider. The threads for the suppressor are set about 4 inches inside the suppressor, so the initial blast chamber slides over the barrel to reduce overall length. It does come with a flush mount adapter for large diameter bull barrels. I live next to a cemetery. There were no noise complaints. LOL. Thought maybe someone other than me was tired of spending 2.50 per round for sub loaded ammo. I do use this same bullet in 300 Blackout with Red Dot powder but I dont have my notes for charge weight. Accuracy with this 308 was just over MOA at 100 yards.
