Looking at Ruger 22/45 5.5", Sig 322, Taurus TX22, S&W M&P22 Compact. Because 38 Spl ammo is so high just looking for a fairly accurate and reliable plinker in 22LR as in a fun gun. Have plenty of revolvers for all purposes but I do not own a 22LR hanndgun. Accuracy is a definite requirement, along with adjustable sights and ambi safties as I'm left handed.
Which one would you choose You Tube says they all are GREAT!
Thanks!

These 22/45 are pretty good. I dropped a volquartsen trigger in mine and it's really good now. It's fun with the red dot on top.

Not on your list but... the Ruger MK IV is my choice with the proper grips. Volquartsens work for me. It needs the internal part set too.. The TX22 is a proven performer on our range. Tough, reliable, good trigger, decent sights.... I like the Ruger 22/45 too but mine end up with Volquartsen lowers... Tac Sol, and Volquartsen barrels.. $$$$

For a plinker the TX22, sounds like it fills the bill. I love the 22/45 but I know I will want a better trigger and then maybe a red dot and the list is never ending. A 22 plinker that is box stock accurate out to 50ft for me, wife, and teach the great grands to learn to shoot with is probably going to be the ticket.
Thank you guys for your input. I highly respect it our wouldn't have asked. Thanks again.

I have a Ruger 22/45 and have always enjoyed it. My close friend passed away and left me a Smith & Wesson Victory, He got it as a replacement gun from S&W. We never went and shot it. They are ugly, but what a nice shooting gun. I like to share my Ruger and Victory, It amazes me how every single time the Ruger is picked first,,,, But the comments are always favorable towards the Victory, and it ends up getting shot the most. Plus the Magazines are easier to load. I liked it so much I bought another,,, a Performance Center, Carbon barrel w/ muzzle brake flat face adjustable trigger, upgraded grips, Vortex red dot sight. They are way over $500. Totally different feel between the two, and truthfully don’t have a favorite. The standard Victory is $400-500. Lots of changes, upgrades, options available. Not in the $500 range but my all time favorite, This gun was my dads and I remember the first time he let me shoot it, I was 11 years old. (1971) The very first handgun I shot.

Great Grands brings in another recommendation. The TX22 is nice and not heavy but it is BIG. I lead new shooters with smaller hands, looking to develop or refine their centerfire skills, to the Ruger SR22. Only negative I bring up on the SR22 is that the safety works backwards.

I'm a huge fan of my full size M&P 22 for it's better fit in my hands, accuracy and proven reliability, in my heavy use of it. The 12 round mags are a plus as well, and they are easy to load. They also fit standard M&P 9mm holsters. Another, if you can find one for under $500 is the FN 502, but the first thing to swap out is the plastic sights for 509 steel sights. The latter is not at all expensive from FN. Comes with one 10 rd mag and one 15.

Not on your list but there is a lot of hardly used Buckmarks out there. This one was under $200. in a pawn shop. I swapped the grips and added the bargain bin red dot. Not an ammo finicky gun at all if a target gets missed ,,,,,, it is on me. post image online

I'd have to second an older Browning Buckmark.

Believe it or not I have a Kimber Match Target upper for a 1911 and it's deadly accurate. Only thing is it's ammo sensitive. Now my original old Ruger Mark I I'll put up against anyone's 22 semi. It's 5.5 inch bull barrel with the target sights and I worked the lower over. I have the Walnut Ruger target grips on it.
