Read an on line article about a new Weatherby rifle. It sounds like an improved model 700. Comes with an AR type extractor, and several other improvements. Cost 1200.00 ish. Of course I can't say how much I might like it till I hold one. But a better version of the 700 in that new 338 caliber Weatherby cartridge would be to a great all around hunting rig. 210 grain partitions for Elk 200 grain ballistic tips for deer and 225 or 250 grain bullets for moose and or big bears. I want to find out more. ...tj

I got a 338 Federal reamer recently. I always thought that would be a great all around cartridge for most people but it never caught on. I’ll have to look up the new one you mention and the rifle. It’s so hard for me to pay that kind of money for a factory rifle and 1200 is really cheap these days honestly. But building a full custom is crazy expensive if you use all the best parts. So I’m looking forward to seeing this new one.

Bob Bell bought a Model Seven when they came out and had it rebarreled to 338-08. Perfect Pennsylvania rifle. Last gun he went hunting with. Maybe the 338 federal never caught on because the men that bought them were handloaders and shooters and didn’t sell the rifles. Like the 7-08……..my theory. Both great rounds. I have a tang safety 77 International in 308……..re bore or rebarrel?

The 338 RPM seems the twin of 338WM performance wise……..

338 RPM seems like it splits the difference between the 338-06 and the .338 win mag. I don't do breaks and the mag is to hard on my beat up old carcus. I might warm up to a break though. ...tj

I have used JES Reboring for a few guns and they have always shot better after the rebore. I have talked to him about the .338 Federal and he has done a bunch of them. He is not recommend the Savage 99 as it has issues with the pressure for some reason. I am wanting to do a Winchester 88 in the .338 Fed

A known endorsement is worth a pile of advertising print. I’ll contact them.
