My 14 year old grandson Branson got his first bear today & he was pretty happy after missing one last year. His dad was spotting for him as he laid across his backpack on a side hill & the bear was moving away from them. It had spotted them & when Branson was ready his dad made a fawn bleat & the bear stopped & he made a perfect shot, with the bear going about 10 yds & down. The shot was 235 yds. They saw 7 bears in 2 days, even though it was bad weather both weekends, lots of rain & wind. This is bear #53, all spot & stalk for our family. It was dark before they got it skinned & headed back to camp & they had to take care of one rattlesnake on the way back. There are lots of snakes in this area. Branson's older sister was along for this trip, she loves to tag along & is probably the best fisherman (woman) in the family.    Dick |

Give that young man a hearty handshake,, & tell him it's from a bunch of "old timers" who wish to congratulate him on his first bear!
I also see a proud Papa there too!
That young lady may well be capable of a lot more than just out-fishing them boys. If she decides to get into it,, look out!

My son in the photo with his son has 3 boys & 4 girls, all of the boys have taken bears now & he thinks this girl will be the first daughter to take one, she's game for about anything so far. One of my other son's was also there with one of his boys & they were on a bigger bear but couldn't close the deal before dark & had to head back home, maybe next weekend. Eight bears in 2 days is a pretty good hunt.
