Personally speaking, I prefer (and my hands) prefer the SBH wide spur hammer when cocking one handed. But, on the other hand I prefer a Bisley grip frame when it comes to heavier recoil. I have always heard that the pair produce an “unsightly, gap, void, hole” (between the hammer and the grip frame)……I have yet to find a picture SHOWING ME how the “unsightly” pair look together. I just don’t have the visual understanding.
Can someone please post pictures of the mentioned pair so I can judge for myself. I'm about to go down the custom road (my first commissioned build) and the pair I like aren’t “visually” compatible. Kinda the least of my worries and concerns, but I’d still like to see what it would look like. Thank you

They may be expensive, but a hammer from Ronnie is a quality custom part for less than the cost of a weld and grind job.

Steve, you don’t say if your hammer is for an OM or a NM. A Bisley hammer with a SBH style spur is already available for the OM’s but rest assured the NM hammers in several styles are soon to follow including the one that you need. Rest assured, Ronnie will cover all the bases to include hammers that have extra weight for those that need positive ignition in the coldest weather. Ronnie is a far reaching thinker.

I need to see some pictures. I’m a visual creature. Hey Steve Its not hard to visualise when you put the 2 side by side. Hopefully this will clear up the confusion. I personally prefer the super blackhawk spur with the spark of pure Love. I just like the bisley spur. My first 500 in 1986 still sports the original SBH hammer because i could not get my hands on the one that came with the grip frame i traded for. So i just stuck with it. The unsightlyness everyone is talking about is an open wound so to speak. I major hole that can easily be infiltrated with guck or muck and posibbly gunk up your cocking. More an eye sore for people who dig perfection. So with that being said i have come up with a way to combat this problem. Many have welded up the back and took there chances with loss of hardness but i dont think it has amounted to any problems. Here is the Old model versions that are available as we speak but i am working tirelessly to bring the New models out soon. The left being what we call a Fat Back and the right is for the conventional. Left being for all bisley style backstraps and the right for conventional plow handle style. Conventional hammer in a bisley backstrap frame. Notice the gap between the Hammer and the inside of the grip frame. That cut has to be in the bisley backstrap grip frame so that the hammer can swing back and cock. So there is no getting around that. A plow handle does not have the extra material so it swings free and does not reguire the extra meat on the back of the hammer. This is a Fat back version on the same gun and grip frame. Notice the hammer at the back. as you can see the fat back just fills up the gap between the Backstrap and the hammer but does also offer a smidge more inertia for those that need better ignition. This an older grip frame that was made in the early 90s so it still has a little room between the back of the hammer and the inner cut of the grip frame . The newer versions have all had that gap close up a bit more so no room for trash to get in and gunk up you stuff man. Hope that helps Buddy. R

New Model? Oh yeah. Gonna order a sbh spur Bisley fatsmacker as soon as you do. Not the liking that Bisley on the beater 45 with 345's. It bites. The sbh didn't, but it's a work gun, so the gap must go.
