What twist barrel do you have in your rifle? Most older 22-250 rifles had slow twist barrels. My No 1 has a 1-14” twist and won’t stabilize anything over a 55 or 60gr bullet (and only some 60gr bullets). So it’s worth asking
I shoot 55gr Vmax flat bases in mine and is wonderfully accurate and although I havnt shot a coyote with it I have no doubt it would be dynamite. I know a guy who runs the 53gr version in his AR in 223 and kills piles of dogs every year with the combo. Rarely has an exit hole to sew up.

Well: you should be able to reach out and touch them with TMKs but watch barrel life. Have a nice day Don K.

You might be going the wrong way as to bullet weight. I ran the Nosler 40 grain BT at 4150 out of my 22-250 and wasn’t getting any exits.

No exit was my thinking, otherwise small exit hole would be preferable, so I’d say monometal bullet.

Well: Looks as if that 1 in 9 will block lite stuff and he said 62 up so I'd guess even 55 maybe be unstable, Sierra seems to say the TMKs are non hunters and coyote is the limit.I have not had the chance to take the TMKs out on coyote yet, But I like it in 60 grain.. Have a nice day Don K.

I have killed a bunch with Hornady VMax bullets. Never an exit. One downside is they are meant to almost detonate on contact. Meaning shooting through grass or light brush is a no go from the word go.

Do you think the 1-9 twist will stabilize the 40-through 50 gr bullets? As far as I’ve seen or heard, a faster twist won’t hurt accuracy with lighter bullets enough to matter hunting. It will increase RPM and that combined with their higher velocity should make them more likely to deconstruct in the animal and not exit.

I’ve killed a pile of coyotes with a 53gr V-Max hand loaded in a 223 and only had one exit in ten yrs. The V-Max wrecks their insides!
