Nice looking rifle. Scope looks proportional.

I could not agree more with your mention of a 6X fixed power scope. I would have to have a smaller objective than 42mm but, that would definitely be an improvement over the observatory that sits atop the rifle now.

I could go with a Leupold FX3 6x36 but I have always used a 6x42. Started with the Leupold then went to a Meopta and now my preferred scope is a Kahles 6x42 with a #4 reticle

The 250 Savage is a very underestimated round, both rifle and pistol.
It and the 257 Roberts were killed off by compensated gun writers paid to tout the 243 Winchester. Quoting magic numbers that mean diddly about real world hunting.
We can see the same thing being done to the 40 S&W today.
Sometimes shooters push back. We've seen attempts several times to kill off the 30-30 Win, 45-70, etc.
We've gone through eras of rimmed, rimless, belted and now rebated rimless. It's all about gun sales with hunters not considered until their wallet comes into play.
Ronnie, great rifle!!! I've got a Limited Edition Ruger #1 so chambered.
Please keep us posted...

Even one of the new 1-6x scopes would be nice.

I do love the .250 Savage and have had a few Savage 99s and a Savage Model 20 in the round. I blame my first hunting book that my dad gave me to read “Shots at Whitetails” by Larry Koller. I still have it. I have read that book hundreds of times.

I believe the 25-06 killed off the 257 Roberts. There's no majic numbers with 243 Winchester or the 6mm Remington. The numbers are right were they said they were and are. Those 6mm are a dual purpose cartridge for varmints and medium size game which they fulfill that job very well. Winchester seen their 243 as a dual purpose round while Remington did not and it costs them the number one sport in the 6mm's. Then they adjusted the twist and it was too late. I've been running a SAKO 243 since 1965. It brings home the venison without fail for me and many others. It also gave me many pleasurable groundhog hunts and other varmints. The 40 S&W just didn't fill niche and what helped it into the grave as it looks is the vast improvement in the 9mm Luger round and the fact that guns shooting it hold more rounds and they are lighter. The 40 S&W is quite snappy especially for women. That's what killed the 10mm which it was to replace. The that Federal produced a much lesser recoiling round for the 10mm just didn't catch on. Do you subscribe to any gun magazine or hunting magazine at all because you seem to have a lot of contempt for gun writers. Now I will have to totally agree with you that they did kill off one round and that was the 16ga shotgun. It filled a niche where the 12ga was too much for some small game and the 20ga just wasn't enough. It was also lighter then a 12ga.

Some gun writers also killed the 357max. A few have tried with the 480. If you believe much of their hype, the old cartridges aren't game getters either, no matter what history shows.

Most definitely!!! But, this thread is about Ronnie's new gun. Hopefully he'll post a range report on here. I just refused to renew my subscriptions to two more gun magazines. Frankly, there's a lot more information and less bias on here than I'm paying for from them...

Although I never thought of it as a “rifle/pistol” combo, it proved a smooth coupling of ballistic talents----my old dog leg Ruger Model 77 6mm Remington with Leupold Vari-X II 2-7x Duplex, and my seminal S&W M-29 .44 Mag 6-1/2”; two phenomenal wands in ascending marksmanship. David Bradshaw
