I have owned an absolutely gorgeous 1874 Shiloh Sharps in 45Long for 30 years, and have not hunted with it much, as I sure don’t want to scratch it up. So it’s only taken 2 Elk, 2Hogs and 1 Black Bear. So I have been looking for something of a “plain looking” 74 sharps, 1885, etc single shot. The goal is that I can drag it thru the woods and Not worrying about it as much. A friend told me about an estate sale of “a whole bunch of old single shots” long story short, I ended up with an Unfired C sharps, with a monstrous octagon 34” barrel, two Browning 1885’s, both heavy long barrels. One round one octagon. Two Ruger no1’s with custom long heavy aftermarket custom barrels. Only one is in a caliber I enjoy, so there will be some re chambering, and the no1’s will be severely shortened into handy walking around rifles. Long intro…… here’s my issue, none have sights. Does anyone have decent quality take off sights for any of these firearms, and interested in trading, selling them. I know there are many available new from many quality company’s, the MVA sights on my Shiloh are great, but after this purchase I’m trying NOT to go crazy on sights. Just slapping modern sight or scope on the 3 older designs just doesn’t seem right. I am toying with a Leathereood long scope on the 50-110 Express C Sharps as that BPCR is too big and heavy to walk around with! Open to ideas and pics of yours. Terrible thing is I 99% of the time hunt with revolvers, so I’m diving into an unfamiliar pool here. I just love big bore lever guns and Buffalo Rifles to play with too.

You need one more!! My 1886TD in 4590 will be sent to a new home this year. When I was looking for sights for it years ago Brownells carried some nice high end quality ones, probably not anymore. I eventually went with Lyman Globe and receiver sight for mine.

What type of sight are you looking for? Barrel sights, tang sights or something else are the barrels dovetailed for barrel sights? I’m pretty sure the dovetails on c. Sharps and Shiloh are different widths.

The C Sharps has a front globe ( no spirit level) with removable drop in ( card type) sights. Nothing on the rear. That big heavy 34” long 1” Octagon monster needs to launch large heavy 510 caliber bullets out of a 50-110 case. I would probably never shoot at 1,000 yards, but I want to install a 600 yard rear at least. I’m also toying with a Leatherwood 2 tone, Brass Black 6X.
The browning 1885 has a very heavy octagon barrel as well, but only 3/4” by 29, and I’m sure will enjoy 45/90 and 45/110 long heavy bullets as well. It has a very nice ( modern) scope on it, and just doesn’t have the right look. Front has no dovetail so still up in the air on this one.
No 2 Browning1885 is 40-65, 1/2 octagon, 1/2round, tang peep in the rear, with a dovetail block off plate in the front. So a simple globe or flip over globe, brass post should be perfect for that.
The 2 Ruger no1’s have both been re barreled with 1” x 28” heavy custom barrels. These will need to be rechambered. One is going to Oregunsmithing to become a 16.5” 50-110, and I’ll see what Wayne can do for me to add some sort of BOLD Safari type sights, solid and rugged, and brite for quick acquisition.
The second no 1 is up in the air. I would like a .475/70 to handle all 475’s from Ruger 480 on up, but I cannot find anyone to rebore it, so after the others are finished, I’ll contemplate on it some more.

Trapr I don’t “need” these single shots, or another lever gun, that I pretty much just play with on the side, when my hunting revolvers are resting! I do love shooting big bore revolvers, lever and single shots. Guess I’m just an old GunWhore! I have a buddy that might really be interested in your 86, as I know he likes playing with his other winchesters. We’ll talk and I’ll get some pics and info to him.
