Ky gun company has trade in Cop Glock 21's for a good price. Thinking about getting one for a Rowland conversion. Anyone did one of these? Opinions?

I love my G21s in .460 Rowland. I strongly recomend the actual 460 Rowland kit. I have seen wrecked guns from all manner of converted Glocks except theirs. After trying a Bar-Sto ported barrel in .460 Rowland I don't recommend it. I love their barrels and don't mind fitting them but there is a reason 460 Rowland got away from the ports and went straight to the comp. The ports don't generate enough downforce to keep the action locked long enough until the pressure spike is down. It would work great with a 45 Super at 28,000 PSI but at the full 40,000 PSI level not so much. If using a police turn in gun make sure the slide to frame fit is good on the rails. As long as that gun is a .45 ACP it will run forever. If it has a lot of wear the 460 will finish it off. I used brand new G21s to build mine. While I absolutely run full throttle loads in my pet 460 I have found that there is a happy place right between the 45 Super and 460 Rowland. I used mince for deer sized game and hogs. The 230 grain XTP and 230 grain Gold Dot between 1250 and 1300 feet per second kill just fine. I can also vouch for the accuracy of 460 Rowland's kits. My pet shoots under 2" at 40 yards with my bad eyes and has shot a few incredible groups.

This is the new style kit. They changed comps to this style but it works just as well. The data posted on 460 Rowlands website maxed out on the hottest loads at 36,000 PSI. Their factory loads are much hotter. I have only ran a maybe 100 of the factory stuff. Just my opnion but you can do anything you want to with the hand loads at 36,000 PSI and your gun will live a lot longer.

Thanks reflex. In all honesty it probably won't be used much anyway. I just wanted one because...
I really don't care for Glock nor almost any other semi. I just don't have a plastic semi or a 460. Gets both handled this way.

I've had a few 45 SUPER builds (45 acp brass loaded to 460 pressures not 28k psi levels) in Glocks, 1911, and XDMs. My current one is a gen 4 g21 with a threaded bar-sto barrel and infiniti products compensator on it. I had to throat the barrel to be able to run wfn style bullets to full mag length since the bar-sto has a very short throat. Its a very versatile round, i have loads ranging from 185g JHPs up to 352gr WFNs. I never thought a plastic pistol could be as accurate as it is but it is impressive. A lightweight big bore powerhouse that's very easy to carry and shoot and has 13+1 capacity.

352 grain WFN in a .460 rowland!? Is that in a wheel gun or were you somehow able to make that work in a semi?

I have a Colt gvt ser70 with a Clark 460 set up. I like it very much …but…I’ve broken a number of small parts since the conversion 10 years ago. Slide stop, extractor, etc. so I currently keep my loads to 1150 or 1200. In my gun, full throttle is 230grxtp at 1340. Took an exotic sheep with it. Penetration was maybe 12” on a straight on brisket shot. I’ll be using the 250grxtp at 1150 next time as I think it will penetrate better and still expand a bit.
All in all, I like the conversion and shoot it often.

Hmmm, now y’all have me wondering if a .45 or .454 RedHawk running moonclipped .460 would be possible…

Feed lips were trimmed, bent the mag spring to tilt the follower up a bit and notched the front of the mag to make it feed with the wfn bullet but it did in the end. It was more of “can I actually make it run” than trying for any kind of practicality. I already had these bullets (Lyman 452651pb) for my 454 sitting there and curiosity got the best of me.

Interesting. Makes me want to measure my loads to see where they are at. I know my 230 xtp loads are seated to where they almost touch the inner portion of the mags.

Just checked my records and my 230 xtp load is 1.245". Wish I could load longer!
