I picked up the 300 savage model 99 yesterday. It has feeding issues with 3 kinds of factory ammo. With the help of you tube and friend I took it apart and cleaned reassembled it. It still will not feed a single round. The rounds get stuck under what i perceive as the ejector, that also helps guide the cartridge.
Not going to mess with it further till I get the dies ZI ordered from Midway and can put together some dummy cartridges. I suspect the spring under the ejector might be the problem. The ejector does not appear to retract far enough to allow the cartridge lift to the side of it and then be guided into the chamber. I will probably take it to a gunsmith and either spend a couple hundred bucks fixing it or be told the parts can't be found except on e bay. ...tj

Not exactly the same thing but I picked up a like new 9422. It jammed every time. Turned out to be a $15 part (lifter?) that was bent and too me 20 minutes to replace. Hopefully yours is simple like that.

TJ I worked on Sav99 that came to me in parts, and picked up a few of them I think I have a rotor, ejector, and some others let me know if you need any and you are welcome to them. The hardest thing for me to find was the correct number of turns to give the rotor spool spring before assembly and getting it to stay. The pin that secures it seemed too loose to secure adequately. There are two feed systems, one with an ejector secured by the spool and one with the ejector secured in the receiver, if memory serves me. You do need to make sure you have the correct caliber specific parts, sometimes garage gunsmiths will substitute incorrect parts not knowing 250sav. won’t work with 300sav. and then they have issues.

No Savage 99's here. One shows up in the rack at deer camp. One of the members brings Gran'Pa with him to the hunt. Others do the same, a rifle from a now gone family member, a mentor to them, for hunting. We call it our extra, back-up rifle. Nobody is fooling anyone though. I's sure enjoy to hear that there is a happy ending to this story.

I had one in .308, many years ago, that would feed the 1st one, but never any after that one... I had a couple local guys work on it, & sold it, to a buddy that wanted it... not sure if he ever found someone that could get it running, or if it became a single shot wall hanger... assume something wears, as it wasn't dirty or sticky

I wish I could find out who the smiths was that converted my TD into a solid receiver. They did an excellent job, and the gun shoots great, it’s a 1943 vintage if memory serves me.

It is a Rotary magazine. I think late 40's I plan to look at a 99 of the same vintage and maybe take a picture. I would not be surprised it is the wrong ejector.

Well: You guys got to knock it off, when I was a young un 99s were as common as salt, next some one will tell me a 94 in the 1 million1/2 range must have come from grampa. Most of the grampa gun youd see were breakopen, no trigger guard rim fires. The gun mounted over the mantle was a flintlock fowling type. Have a nice day Don K.
