Howdy all,
I am going to order some of the Missouri Bullet .475 Thumpers and work up loads using Unique with these. Any advantage of the coated bullets over their lead offering? These are .476 dia 340 grain RNFP at 18 Brinell. I am not looking to drive these super fast, around 900-1000 fps should fit my plinking just fine.
Thanks for any assistance.

I'd get the coated, am biased, am on 3 or 4th box now. I've shot those bullets with 8.3grs of Trail Boss thru powders of varying burn rates to Longshot. The TB load goes, 750-ish FPS. Think 44spec with another 100 grs of bullet..

There have been quite a few threads, discussions on..popular charge weight of 10 grs Unique. You may be happy, right there too.

I quit using cast & lubed once I found powder coating.
Cleaner, less smoke, easier cleaning the gun, and occasionally better accuracy.

PC is cleaner, smokless, won't crud up dies like lubed bullets will.

"If one could only get some Trail Boss…."
Some of us still have plenty.

Thanks for the replies. I had already gleaned from this website 10 grains of Unique is probably a good load but my question has to deal more with coated versus lead and if there are any nuances in these larger bore calibers not being pushed to magnum velocities.

Lots of variables, but I'd say the bigger the bore, the softer the alloy might be used per velo range. Think the bigger bores are less nuancy, another new word ! Many here years ahead of me and buy/make their bullets in batches a extra zero in size. I don't mind being corrected, when needed.

IF YOUR BARREL IS PORTED AND YOU HAVE ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN ALL BLACK FS YOU NEED JACKETED OR PC'ed BULLETS AS LUBED BULLETS WILL SOOT YOUR FS.

"Tyrone ! I've never seen you post anything even remotely mean before ! LOL.. " Gee,, are you saying it's mean to having the foresight to buy a case of (8) 1-lb sized cans & one of the bigger 8-lb jugs of Trail Boss when I was shooting SASS? Then,, quit shooting SASS after another year or so? Then not using the powder up? I think I still have all but 2-1/2 containers of the smaller cans still here. Being REALLY mean would be listing what I PAID for that powder!
