Well I guess this was a waste of a post as usual. They always go sideways and way off topic. This board is starting to run its course the same as others. If your part of the click everyone can’t answer you fast enough or if your one of the worshiped ones everyone can’t suck them off fast enough. Not sure where you get I’m going to be intentionally deceitful? If I was selling it to a person face to face. I would absolutely tell the buyer about it. I’m probably the most honest seller you will ever meet. I’ve had many a gun corrected or fixed before I sold it so I don’t decieve the buyer. My feedback speaks for itself. I’ve bought from every major auction house in the country, many smaller ones as well know and even from England recently. Never seen a description from any of them that says anything more than description and condition of metal, finish etc. Have I been burned? Yes a few times. But that’s the chance I took So if you don’t have anything to add other than critique me stay the fuck off my post!!! Woody, I understand your frustration. Customer service is just terrible nowadays - almost to the point of being non-existent. Understand also you gave it your best try with S&W. How about approaching the auction house and letting them know you not only got a gun from them that was not right but the manufacturer is unable to repair? At that point if they re-sell it is on them. I called S&W this said send it back. I asked another 5 months. He said sorry it to so long. The gun had to go to the Performance Center since it wasn’t a simple repair turning the barrel. I’m torn on what to do. I referred to it as The Non Performance Center. lol. He even laughed. I might just have my local smith fix it.

I can fully understand woody's frustration & anger. The gun is way off, and S&W didn't correct it.
To see the language & attitudes by both initial parties is NOT what I've come to appreciate about this Forum.
Can we please be more civil in our discussions?

Well, I read through all this. Remember back in the old days where you have a clunger car for sale and it has rod knock and you put sawdust in the oil to quiet it and sell it? I've heard this, but don't know if it's true. So they deceitfully sale the car. Okay here's maybe an option for you. Have the revolver rebarreled. That just might do it. Then again it may not. Personally myself I wouldn't sell it to anyone without telling them what it does wrong.

I had a 986 back to SW 3 times and my local gunsmith had a note that it needed a new ratchet and they failed on the first two outings. In addition, they wouldn't sell him or me a ratchet for a 986. That gun was out of my possession for almost a full year. Now it works right but I will never again by a new SW, only older models with deep parts availability. For reference, this 986 also didn't have the front dovetail cut correctly on top of the faulty ratchet. "Performance Center". This was my third brand new SW that I had issues with, 3/3.

One final thing, don't know if anyone mentioned it, I'd try a laser pointer cartridge in the chamber just to see where things are pointed.

One final thing, don't know if anyone mentioned it, I'd try a laser pointer cartridge in the chamber just to see where things are pointed. Rationale? You could sight CT grips in to POI and include a note to S&W saying that’s demonstrating the discrepancy. But really they should just fix and test fire it themselves. Could always keep it as is and mount a reflex sight too but if it was mine I’d want it made right regardless.

Let me tell you a story about a basket case Colt New Service I bought number of years ago. It was complete except for a barrel and it had broken grips. I rebuilt and was anxious to shoot it so I made a pair of walnut grips as I awaited some replica hard rubber grips to arrive. It shot okay, not target grade and it did keep all the shots on a printing paper that had the bullseye. Recently I bought new mold and I wanted to see how it would shoot the bullets from it. Now the darn thing is shooting 12 inches to the left and low. I tried everything: different bullets, different powders, different loads. Nothing helped. They I devised a test. I have a make shift Ransom rest. I told myself I'm going to put it in the rest and see what is does. I was blown away. It put the bullet hole right on top of the front sight tip were I was aiming. Let me tell you at this time she was wearing the hard rubber Colt grips. I thought, itshot well with the walnut grips I made, must be the grips. Put the walnut grips on it and it shot to the same place to the left. Hmmmmm, so then I shot it left handed as I'm right handed. Lo and behold it's dead in the bullseye. Back to right hand and really really concentrating the hosts were just about 2 inches to the left. I've been told that New Services are picky about how they are held. Yes I just use the tip of my trigger finger pad and squeeze straight back. I also don't flinch. There is a difference with my left hand, it's smaller then the right hand since I'm right handed and use that hand exclusively. So I have a pair of Pachmayr grips coming for it. We shall see if there is a good difference.
With said don't give up on your revolver. Do all the things I just did with my trouble gun. Try that laser cartridge. Have other friends shoot it.

"Waste of a post as usual" from a guy with 1100 or so posts. I'll grant him, a really bad day thing, and walk away. Hope Woody has better days.

How about the guy that basically accused me of being a deceiving scumbag which is the farthest from the truth. My only fault is if you insult my integrity I’m going to call you out on it. It’s funny how people really don’t like it when you speak your mind. Rather be lied to or have their belly rubbed and told what they want to hear. lol. You know the funny part of the whole post. I bought that gun fully intending to sell it. That’s why it originally to S&W to be corrected so I didn’t sell a lemon. But after about a month of it being gone I decided I would keep it when it returns and put it on my permit. I had one in the past for a second and kind of always wanted another. But you can’t keep them all so I had planned to sell it. Why did I not mention it before? Because really wasn’t Jeff’s business but he made my original post his business or podium to preach. Hey Einstein did you ever think my 1100 posts may be responses to others posts and not posts I started.

Thanks for the tips. I did take it to the club this weekend. I shot it with the pachmyers that came on it and a set of Ahrends I intended to put on it if I keep It. Same results. So I also had a few members shoot it. Same for them. I really wanted a righty to shoot it since I’m a lefty. I had a guy that a really good revolver shooter and right handed shoot it. Same for him. 6” left at 25 and a tad high.

Woody I really would like to know what it would do in a Ransom rest and also where a lazer cartridge would point. If it were mine I'd had Smith put a new barrel on it.

I had a really bad S&W bought new, in the ball park of 10 years ago... a 610 - 6" after 4 times back to S&W, the final time along with a note from the area sales rep. it came back, & is now my 2nd best S&W ( best is vintage ) but they aren't the gun company they were in the 50's, but probably capable of producing some pretty nice equipment, & capable of some good work... but their focus is no longer revolvers, & it may take some prodding to get a "nice" revolver, or work, out of them today... but in reality, they7 really aren't different than anyone else today...

I think I have a line on a new barrel and will have my local smith swap it out. The new barrel has a pinned front sight so that’s a bonus. It currently has a red insert front sight. Not may favorite. I would Prefer a gold bead or all black.
