Back in the early 80's I got my first Super Blackhawk and not long afterward I went into a gunshop and handled a stainless Virginian Dragoon (VG) and owning a SBH the "Swiss safe" was not palatable to me so I passed on it. Over the years I've thought of getting one but as yet have not.
Recently I noticed that VG gripframes have showed up on Ebay and I figure it's unlikely that owners are getting RW gripframes made for them and they're being decommissioned.
I now own a Cimarron with a Swiss safety that has never been used as I load it with six and keep it on half cock. So, aside from the Swiss safe are the VG's really that bad?

Gary.... the Interarms Virgian Dragoon is not a “VG.” Other than the old NRA rating of VG grading a firearm 95%, what the hell is “VG”?
My experience is limited to the Interarms Virginian Dragoon Silhouette model, otherwise called the Silhouette Dragoon. Very accurate in .357 and .44 Mag. The challenge comes from its long lock time, a consequence of its tall hammer, with long arc fall. The long lock time tests a shooter’s follow through. Rod Sward ran the factory in Virginia, rifling via pull-through carbine swage, for specified 1:18” twist, which sometimes came out closer to 1:19”.
Basic Peacemaker lockwork with a floating firing pin, Colt-type leaf spring actuating trigger & bolt. Coil mainspring.
Nobody I knew used the Swiss Safe base pin, preferring the only way tom carry a Peacemaker----hammer down on empty chamber.
Interarms was started & owned by Sam Cummings of World War II OSS fame. Cummings became an international gun runner after the war, supplying nations with surplus arms and American shooters with military small arms. David Bradshaw

Curious about the origin of the premise for the thread: "Virginian Dragoon are they really THAT bad?"
Just speculation upon seeing those grip frames? In general they do not have a bad reputation.

I've had a few over the years. The ones I've had all had over sized chamber throats (.434" on a 44 mag). Other than that they are pretty cool and can be found cheap.

I have a stainless Virginian Dragoon (non silhouette) style and like it a lot. It is not a Gary Reeder, but it doesn't cost what a Reeder does either. Solid lockup, hell for stout, I cant think of anything I dont like but I am not a competitor, just a shooter. One of my favorite tractor carry pieces because I dont have to worry about rub damage. Mine is accurate enough for my uses. If another came along at the right price I would not turn my nose up at it. Not at all.

Gary.... I shouldn’t have worried about your computer giving a revolver VD. Quite obvious, however, that Artificial Intelligence can infect our writing with VD. David Bradshaw
