I ended up taking off, burning a precious paid vac day for the coming Monday. I have to cross 40 miles of N.E. Ohio right across the path of 3 minutes of darkness, 2nd shift work. Options were to leave REALLY early, or little early and risk having to make a last minute call off. Our sick days and 5 of our vac days can be taken with less than 24hrs notice. They a to be rationed. Chose to just take the day. We are 2 days into a heavy spring rain patch. Another day or two coming yet. River is already high for a just rain thing. Should be dry by monday. I'll likely be doing 1st mowing wearing my eclipse glasses...LOL.

Sheriffs and Troopers saying to treat like major snow event and stay home, off the roads, etc.. Last night coming home 11pm-midnite, could already tell, a shift in types of vehicles, speeds driven. You know EVERYONE is just gonna stop, wherever they are and LOOK.

Live about 8-9miles from exact center of path, that'll be just off shore, out over Lake Erie.

Work takes me nearly to the center of the path of totality.
On the one hand I'd like to not be stuck in the OR or delivering a baby during the eclipse, but on the other hand delivering a baby during a total eclipse probably fulfills some prophecy and who am I to get in the way of destiny?
Hopefully I'll be on the helipad watching it though.

With any luck I’ll be looking over the sights at something or gutting a pig complaining about who turned out the lights in the middle of the day.

I don't remember it being so stupid around here during the last eclipse and we were dead center.

I work for a sizeable grocery retailer in Texas that has many stores in the direct path. The amount of planning and expectations are nothing short of absurd. All for a 20 minute event...

The weather lady is saying cloudy and a 30% chance of rain here in east texas. Gonna be a lot disappointed people. Now if it was deer season you could hunt daylight to dark twice in one day.

When there was an eclipse about 6+ years ago or so, our part of Oregon was in the path of total darkness. What a zoo we had to deal with, people camping wherever they wanted to and making quite the mess. Several friends and relatives had to call the sheriff to get the crazies off of their property as they were scared that they would start a forest fire and burn-down the state as it was the middle of July and drier than a popcorn fart around here.
People came from far and wide to see it; other states and countries - like Germany, Japan and others.
My kids and I came back from an antelope hunt the day before so we watched it, kind of a let-down, not very exciting to me.

Seven years ago in Idaho for the eclipse the traffic was a real mess. The entire thing was fun for a couple minutes but wouldn’t want to fight the traffic again. If I’d have wanted to set up a hot dog stand on the shoulder of the freeway I could have made a mint load because the cars weren’t moving even at a snail’s pace. I’ll watch it on the television next time.
