Just picked up a 1993 manufactured Blackhawk 7.5" barrel. Since it's about shot out, I took it to my smith for some work. I asked him to cut the barrel back to 6.25"-6.5" after being set back one thread, as the BC gap is .009" The end shake is .002" chamber bores are .480" throats are .451", and the forcing cone looks great but it's getting redone with the barrel set back. He is also going to do a trigger job and fit a Bisley grip frame and grips. I might be able to get him to do a BP chamfer to the cylinder but he says he does not like doing them. It's going to be my hunting gun, replacing a 6.5" 629 powerport. Said gun $550 out the door. It's going to end up looking like my 5.5" 45 Colt Blackhawk with stainless accessories shown below.

Well nothing says I can't hunt with the 5.5" For $550 I could not pass it up, My Super Blackhawk 7.5" does not get out much because I don't care for the longer length.
It has set me back in my saving up to buy a BRF 500JRH but its okay. I don't hunt elk much anymore they are getting to be hard to haul out of the rocky canyons anymore.

I have a 5” barreled Bisley .45 Colt, it’s a great length to carry. Yours looks great with the stainless grip frame ! The “new” one will too.

My pet load is Linebaugh's data for the NEI 315gr swc. I wouldn't hesitate to use it for elk, moose, even bison. And I do have a few 475 and 500's. But the old Blackhawk will do the job well.

Couldn't pass it up. I have had a 7.5 inch stainless 45 Colt since 1996. I dont care for the extra barrel much either. Too hard to carry up and down the tractor and such. The shorter ones are a little bit better for ranch duty. And I understand completely about harder to pack out stuff. I used to shoot a deer, gut it, throw it over my shoulder and walk the half mile back to the house. Now I shoot one and call for a truck or side by side. I am either spoiled or getting old before my time.

Around here you would be covered in ticks before you made it 50 yds.

May be just smarter, I have only driven right up to 4 Elk. the rest have been a lot of work rocky Arizona canyons are awful, throw the quarter up on a rock climb around and carry up to next rock. I quit hunting bulls as the dam head is the worst part to carry out, and cows taste better.
