linkHAD SOME FITMENT ISSUES WITH 45 COLT HANDLOADS IN TIGHT CHAMBERED CUSTOM DA REVOLVERS. AT FERMIN "2 DOGS" GARZA's SUGGESTION I TRIED A REDDING PROFILE CRIMP DIE, AND USED IT ON LOADS THAT ALREADY HAD A LEE FACTORY CRIMP DIE CRIMP ON 'em AND IT HELPED TO ELIMINATE THE FITMENT ISSUES. JUST BOUGHT THE ABOVE PCD DIES (THE 32 S&W L./32 H&R MAG AND 45 COLT/454 CASULL ARE DUPLICATES OF DIES ALREADY IN HAND). PER THE INSTRUCTIONS THE PCD DIE "has a quick taper crimp section followed by a tight roll crimp .... (that) will first produce a taper crimp followed by a uniform, tight roll crimp". WITH MY NEW GARMIN XERO C1 IN HAND I MAY ALSO SEE HOW DIFFERENT AND/OR ADDITIONAL CRIMPS AFFECT MV AND ACCURACY. NOTE ADDED: THE LEE FACTORY CRIMP DIES I USE ON MY 45 COLT AND 454 RELOADS ARE THE CARBIDE DIES NOT THE COLLETT DIES.

I use these too with great results. David Clements introduced me to them.

I absolutely love the new lee collet crimp dies. If these are an improvement over the lee, thats really saying something!

Definitely not an improvement over the Lee Collet Crimp Die. But, then nothing else is either.
As Rey said, these are great when chambers are really tight and you need a taper crimp and roll(ish) crimp in one package.
I found I needed one with my JRH 480 Ruger Midframe Flattop when using cast bullets.

Please don't just say it's got a collet... A collet is used to squeeze the crimp onto the case rather than a tapered smaller internal dimension of the die like a taper or roll crimp. If you havnt tried one, you should.

Will somebody post a photo of one of these said Collet crimp dies from Lee? I’ve been on their website and it is positively unclear what you guys are talking about.
A catalog/part # would be helpful too…

Roll crimp vs collet crimp Ha! Thanks…. I’m simply trying to understand what the dies are. Even downloading the Lee catalog doesn’t help. Rabbit —> hole

With the collet crimp the bullet doesn't even need a canueller groove. It will make its own

Not that I'll ever see ten loads from one piece of brass but how does that affect case life?

I'm curious too. That collet crimp looks like that poor case just ran into Rowdy Roddy Piper. Oooff!
Wondering if the Redding Profile is a little... gentler.

Like any piece of equipment, it's only as good as it's operator.
The Collet Crimp Die does not depend on the case body to Crimp. The bottom of the Die contacts the shellholder. Therefore crushed cases are eliminated.
