The American Gunsmithing magazine has ceased publication with the March 2024 issue and they switched people who subscribed to Gun Tests magazine for the remainder of their subscription period.
Anyone on the forum subscribe to Gun Tests? Do you like it or is it just ho-hum?
I got my first one yesterday and will be reading it to see if it is worth renewing but would like some feedback from those who get it regularly.
Thanks.

No I do not. But I've always enjoyed telling the story of the one and only issue I read. They compared a bunch of single actions, maybe a Ruger Vaquero, some Italian SAA's and a Freedom Arms 83 in 454. The Freedom Arms didn't do too well, they didn't like that it only held 5 rounds, and it recoiled too much. And I never bothered looking at their work ever again.

I don’t subscribe myself but a member of my gun club brings his to the club when he’s finished. They do good comparisons and don’t have to worry about giving bad press about a gun and pissing off a company the advertises with them. Thats what they claim and they do tell you the facts on what they test.
Just think. Have you ever seen a bad write up in any of the big name fancy mags? Like American Handgunner, Shooting Times, Soorting Classics etc. they sure have pretty pics and I subscribe to all of them but the gun companies know who to pimp guns out to.

I was given a stack of them from recent. I burned them before I allowed myself to read them. They're all giant ads to me.

I used to subscribe way back when. I remember them recommending the Ruger Redhawk over the Colt Anaconda I thought looked so nice. I bought a redhawk, used it on a bunch of critters, and it is a good gun. No doubt. Still longed for an anaconda until got one last year.

I used to get Gun Tests.
I got tired of the way the didn't compare similar guns. They'd test 3 guns,, and usually there was one "cheaper" one, one middle of the road,, and one expensive one. It may appear that they were trying to do a real world comparison,, but I found them a bit lacking.
I got to where I could look at the 3 guns,, and skip the article, and predict the "Pick" of the 3 and read the review at the end. I was usually correct. Oh,, they may find fault with something on a top quality gun,, (like mentioned above where they didn't like the RA,) but would also still call it "good enough.

A waste of reading time.

I bought a stack of them at an estate sale, put them on the nightstand to read at night before I went to sleep. They worked...never finished an article, they put me to sleep nicely. Would never pay for them again.

I subscribed pre-innernet days.
It was OK.
Better sources of info available now.

I read my first issue and really wasn't all that impressed. Yes, lots of testing (and thusly and lot of reading) but, to me, meh. It seems that I can find a lot of real world comparisons/tests from forums like here and other places. But I have 2 more issues to get so I'll try to read them with no prejudice and see if they change my mind.
