Had this one built in 1987. Old gunsmith friend that built it has been gone almost 30 years. Like to get it out and play every few years. Yesterday closed the shooting session with 10 rounds at 25 yards. Georgia Arms 148 grain wadcutters. Bet it would be a one holer from my Ransom Rest.

I'd love to see the rear notch that was paired with that front sight!!!

The rear notch for that is between your ears. Grab that barrel to hold it against the barricade and let your finger slip over the muzzle one time and the need for that front sight, while no longer a need, becomes very obvious.

It probably does double duty to help keep blast gas off the objective lens.

I can't see fit to resort to emojis in order to flag tongue-in-check humor.
However, I've often wondered about the logic behind the "shooting games" which make use of totally impractical guns, holsters and accessories which no one in their right minds would employ on or with an honest to gosh, real "using gun". It seems you'd get accustomed to relying on that tab to keep your hand under control, and then in a real gun fight, it's not there to protect you. Ouch.

Ouch. ***** As a game develops, gear for the game tends to specialize. This is why we had separate gun categories in Handgun Silhouette, wherein a Production pistol ofr revolver couldn’t be customized at all. Whereas, you could customize your Unlimited pistol to your heart’s content, just so long as it meets these measurements: IHMSA Unlimited* Maximum weight 4-1/2 lbs. * Maximum barrel length 15”. * Maximum sight radius 15”. * Iron sights only. IHMSA Production* Maximum weight 4 lbs. * Maximum barrel length 1-13/16”. * No non-factory parts except aftermarket grips finished to a standard pattern (iexample: Pachmayr). * Trigger job, factory parts only. One can make fun of a disciplined sport. However, skills developed tend to silence laughter when the chips are down. David Bradshaw

Missing a zero, Dave. But I would dearly loved to have seen you popping rams with a snubby!

No doubt in my mind that he could do it. In fact, I'm betting he is about to chime in that he did!

We see the same type evolution in pretty much all shooting competitions. I enjoy pointing out that in Bullseye we may have moved to red dots and scopes on our guns but the standing aggregate record was set in '84 with iron sights. IPSC was established to control modifications in run fast shoot fast competitions and from what I see, does so pretty well....
