I have a friend that I'm helping get started with 50-110. He has ordered a new manufactured Winchester 1886 in the caliber, which has a 1:20 twist barrel. He wants to use smokeless powder. I have data for Accurate 5744 and 2015. I'd like to find data for 4198, 3031, and Unique. We're looking to likely purchase a 420 grain mould for a general purpose bullet. www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=51-422Bwww.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=51-410PWe are looking to stay 1200-1500 fps to keep recoil reasonable, at least to start with. Can anyone suggest data, or a place to look for data?

Loaddata.com has quite a few loads listed. Not much below 1500-1600 though.

I'm quite interested in a source for an off the shelf, made with modern steel, 50-110.

You can load safely using 50 Alaskan load data. It’s like a special to the 50-110

On my Turnbull #1 I used Accurate powder data for the 50-90 cartridge as a starting point.
They are close but Do your research as to using it.

Never loaded 50-110, but anytime I’m loading smokeless powder in the old “large” BP cartridges, I start and end with 5744. I am always in the velocity range you mention and extreme spreads are the lowest of any smokeless powder I have ever tried.
Is the ‘86 a carbine or rifle? Just curious, as Tom Selleck in Monte Walsh had a carbine 50-110. (My favorite “other than Lonesome Dove” movie). Sounds like an awesome gun getting built.

Thanks for the info. My buddy's gun is going to be a 26" octagonal barrel, takedown deluxe rifle.

5744 is a great choice, very consistent in my loads.
