I have a magnum cylinder on the shelf in the safe for a single six convertible. I have a convertible with the two cylinders together and on one side of the cylinder there are three numbers engraved and they are NOT of the serial number. How does one tell if track is lost? Currently living and learning.

I wondered the same thing, as my single six convertible has 3 numbers on the mag cylinder that doesn't match the serial number either, it is a blued 5.5 barrel

When Ruger builds a convertible,, they would match the spare cylinder to a gun, engrave the last 3 digits of the gun's serial number on the face with an electric pencil. Then,, it was off to be blued. That way,, matched cylinders stayed with guns.
But,, there have been times that neither cylinder was marked as well.
It's actually very common to find a mis-matched cylinder to a gun. Why? Well, some guns were not shipped as a convertible,, and after it left the factory, Joe gun owner bought a spare cylinder from Bubba who didn't need his spare cylinder. Or,, a gun gets purchased as a convertible,, yet the spare cylinder never got used, got shuffled around, forgotten, or whatever,,and then the gun is sold traded, stolen or whatever,, and the spare gets separated from it's parent gun.
I've bought spare cylinders a lot over the years. And I've bought guns with the correct matching cylinder.
Sounds like y'all have a set that was assembled after it left Ruger.

I have a SS convertible that the cylinder number doesn’t match the serial number. It fits and shoots fine, but I bought it used so someone might have done some fitting and I wouldn’t have known. I didn’t think to check the numbers when I bought it.

A common occurrence. That's why I buy spare cylinders.

All my Factory original convertibles have matched cylinders. I've fitted numerous cylinders to SS's that came with only one.
