Thanks for sharing, great read and very informative. One of the last whitetail does I shot with my 353 357, the regular XTP failed due to too much velocity. The cup and core separated, penetration was minimal and what appeared to kill the deer was a couple pieces of the bullet shearing off. That this bullet would work well in 357 sounds quite plausible and I may have to try it.

Above 2000 fps impact is the only problem that can come up with Cutting Edge. 353/max shouldn’t be over 2000fps. I’d reckon it would have to be a rifle cartridge to get them going that fast.

"Above 2000 fps impact is the only problem that can come up with Cutting Edge."
Do say more please! Does this mean that the petals shear off on contact? Please elaborate more. And thank you again for doing this research!!

"Above 2000 fps impact is the only problem that can come up with Cutting Edge." Do say more please! Does this mean that the petals shear off on contact? Please elaborate more. And thank you again for doing this research!! So the only problem I had was with a 44 mag Bfr. Same one in the article that I shot the two long range does with. In the beginning I always shoot rock chucks or when I lived back east…ground hogs to prove a bullet to some extent. A 22-250 with a varmint bullet would have been a nice comparison. I called CE after that and that’s when I found out about the max velocity. That 44 BFR was really fast, some guns just are. I don’t think you would see a similar problem with any handgun except some of the big magnums like a 460…..maybe a 357 max. I had to drop 2 grains off the 44 mag load for the bfr and I was in the safe zone. Once again, that barrel was extremely fast and probably a rare find. Sadly I no longer own that gun as after my bicep surgery and all the wrecked nerves I can no longer shoot a single action. Thus why you see me running all these high end double actions now.
