There are some YouTube videos out there..I think the conclusion was that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.

There's many toxins in battery lead. When you melt it, many of them are released in the vapors. It can be deadly. I strongly advise against using it.

As you can see here by the above posts,, NOT a good idea. I don't know of any experienced casters who try & use battery lead.

Years ago battery lead was recommended as a source for bullet casters, some of my old books have the references about it. But I'm talking 50yrs ago and ever farther back.
Probably less toxic then because of the technology at the time.

Since Axman has chimed in here, he is the source of the last couple hundred pounds I have bought and it's been very clean alloy. Performs great as a hollow point lead. Very reasonable price too. I recommend him if he has some available.

Possibly but… Years ago people ate and drank at the reloading bench, and then went shooting without eye and ear protection – none of which being because things were safer back then.

the problems concern the intrinsic toxicity of smelting battery lead combined with the difficulty of refining it decently. a big no-no, from any reputable source_
