Any benefit or is it a must to use magnum primers?

I BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME AND CANNOT RECALL ANY LOAD DATA FOR H110/W296 WITH NON-MAGNUM PRIMERS. NOT SURE I WOULD WASTE TIME AND MONEY TRYING NON-MAGNUM PRIMERS.

Not to be argumentative but there is more to this mag- non mag thing. I have about all the LP primers ever made in the last 20 years. There are primers that will work with H-110 that are not mag. Such as Rem 2-1/2, Magtech2-1/2, sometimes even CCI 300’s will. The whole thing is to not load too low of a charge. For example, if 20 gr works with a CCI 350 but you want to use 300’s cause that’s all you have, bump it to 21 gr and check ignition (cronograph ect). Still bad, bump it some more. In strong guns, H 110 is very predictable up till you load to 100% density. Even under compression in most cases it still is nicely mannered. Its worst manners are when it rattles around in a case. That’s where people get in trouble. You don’t state what you are caliber loading.

H110 can be inconsistent with magnum primers. Much more erratic with standard.

Im using a standard primer (fed 150) with my wc820. It does well over the crono and ive never had any kind of inconsistency. Im using these primers because i have them. If i were buying primers specifically for H110 it would be a mag primer or winchester LP.

It depends on the cartridge. I don't see it as a necessity in the .357 Magnum and always use mag primers with H110 in the 45 Colt and 475 Linebaugh.

I use CCI 300s with H110 for .41 magnum. My most consistent and accurate load of any caliber I load for.

I use standard spp for 32 mag with H110 per Brian Pierce’s recommendation

I see in hornady manual they used a standard primer for their data. So I’m going to start in the upper charge weights to start, keeping case capacity on the high side. Thanks fellas ! Will go to range today to test!

My Hornady manual goes way higher with max charges of H110 under 210 XTP than any other manual. I worked up to it, but in too large of increments — primers were FLAT. No sticky extraction in an OM Blackhawk.

I've used CCI350 for W296/H110 since I started to handload. It was my impression, a performance thing, but also better consistency in COLD weather, for hunting. The CCI 350 always here any way for BP and now TB too.
