The quickest way to get info on the internet is not to ask a question….
Make a false statement and people will reference info why you are wrong.
Yet ask the question and those same folks won’t take the time to politely answer the question

I've been in over 40 Cape Buffalo hunts,7 bull elephant, and two lions. That's nothing compared to the man I was apprenticed to. His backup revolver was a 5" Redhawk in 44mag loaded with 300gr SSK bullets for all the big five except leopard. For those he likes the American Eagle 240hp and a 12ga pump.
Richard is retired from guiding now, but his three sons all carry 454 Casull bfr's. One uses the SSK 340gr, the others use the LBT lfn 325gr. I guess they haven't heard it's not enough gun for the big stuff either.

I shot a lot of prairie dogs with a 220 Swift. Didn’t seem appropriate to shoot them with a handgun. Everything has it’s place.

I’ve shot everything from prairie dogs to Cape Buffalo, Jack Rabbit's to Elk to African Lion with a 454. Guess I don’t know any better either. Maybe I need a 6.5 (manbun) creedmore that shoots flat as a laser out to 1,000 yards……

I was purely having some fun. But here's a man bun with a Freedom Arms. Sacrilege! youtube.com/shorts/fTwzra7SsqI?si=792vqxiU_JtKJfa1

He probably got a haircut now that he knows what it feels like to be a real man. The recoil probably got his nuts to finally drop.

James, we all learn from different forums. I just recently learned a 454 Casull is not enough for a bison. That info will kept me from making a mistake when I decide to hunt bison. Oh, and I also learned that I owe it to the bison to buy a hunting rifle to use - not a handgun. Almost forgot…I’m currently learning about “brush bullets”. KIM, I just found out that guy never took a bison himself but watched other people take them.... One of "his" calibers for bison...... 375 H&H...... After reading his post I can honestly say there are silly people in this world.... Real silly and stupid.....

I was telling a buddy about some of the early (1870’s) Bison Hide Hunters, how they would lower the powder charge so their bullet would go “Almost” all the way thru. That way they could recover the lead bullet, under the hide on the off side, as lead was not easy to get out on the frontier. Melt in a bullet mold around the camp fire at night, shoot more the next day. One weak shot, per animal and they would walk off and fall over dead. I’ll bet the old BP loads were WAY less power than a modern revolver for hunting. In any case, I’ll keep using a handgun, maybe I’ll learn what I’m doing one day.

Bad information has been repeated so much that the people who have never tried it believe it was delivered by angels
