With my cowboy special brass to come in Wednesday, I wanted to discuss any considerations of firing these rounds in my revolvers. Most if not all will be fired from my stainless Mountain Gun. Are there any powders that would cause excessive corrosion or carbon buildup? Does stainless versus blued matter in that regard? I will be loading these light to differentiate between my wife’s light loads and my standard loads. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

A mountain gun will take 45acp +p data just fine. Brass wool or copper chore boy will clean any fouling if you wrap it around a brass cleaning brush and use a cordless drill to SLOWLY turn it in each chamber after pushing a patch wetted with Hoppes through. Doesn't take but a few seconds if you clean it before the ring gets hard.
Avoid lil' gun powder. I prefer Universal,Power Pistol,or AAC #5 for that level. All work great.

Love unique but it's dirty...not in a bad way..... Use .45 AR data and youll be fine. You can shoot the heavy .45AR bullet in that gun which should be a dandy...

Somehow or another, seem to be bissing something here..............
You are thinking of shooting .45 Cowboy Special ammunition in a S&W Mountain gun chambered for .45 ACP? Is this correct?
If your revolver is truly a .45 ACP it is made to use clips, either full moon or half moon clips, or it wiil take .45 Auto Rim without clips. Am I right (Wright?) so far? If this is the case, there will be too hunch headspace to use the .45 Cowboy special. But if your revolver is for the .45 Colt cartridge everything will be O.K.
AS a matter of note, I have made my own .45 Xtra Short cutting down .45 Colt brass and firing these in the ACP cylinder in my Ruger Balckhawks. Note that I am cuting SALVAGED brass, not sound .45 Colt cases.
Please elucidate.

I was planning to use my 5gr of W231 load that shoots so well for me when loaded in .45 acp. That will be under a 452460 200gr SWC.

What makes the ring get hard? Just waiting an excessive amount of time? I was planning to clean it after range trips where the CS loads get used since I do carry this gun fairly often with standard .45 colt loads.

The longer it sits, the harder it gets. Also it will build up more if not cleaned between firing sessions

Alright I got 50 loaded up to try out this weekend. 452460’s loaded over 5gr of W231. Used the .45 colt sizing die and .45 acp dies for all the rest.

Have you got load data for the HS6? For HS-6 in the .45 acp section, starting load 6gr max charge 8.7 for the 452460. Max charge rated at 17,000 CUP. This from the Lyman manual. The load I used this time though is 5gr of W231.

I'm hoping to use the 45 SPL brass in the 45acp cylinder of my NM .45 flattop convertible. Soon as my CB order from GT shows up. www.gtbullets.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=74

In the auto rim section it only goes up to 230 and I believe it is the same for 45 auto. I’m sure there is data somewhere though for the auto rim.
