My new sight came in and i got it mounted up today. Got it sighted in with the modified lee 310rf with 23gr of wc820 and then shot a group at 50yds (i finally moved my backer to a logical distance) with no love. I loaded up 12 round with the same charge but substituted the 270gr MP 432-640 bullet and im getting a lot closer to where i want to be! First group measured 1 7/8" CTC and second group measured 2" even. Looking at them i would ahve sworn the 2" group was smaller until the tape came out. Nice round 6 shot groups with no "fliers". Ran the load over the crono and got 1507fps average. Brass is not sticky so i could push it more and likely will. Not to bad for a random load.

Looks like it's going to shoot. I have about decided all BFRs just shoot.

I dont have enough experience with these type guns to know when to quit and call it good. I had initially set my goal at 3" 100yd groups but im not sure if that's realistic. Im going to set some steel at 100yds and see what this load does there.

your shooting is acceptable anywhere you go. if you open to 4 inches at 100, aint a deer in the woods going to be able to tell. im getting 3-4" groups with my scoped SRH and 4=5" groups with the green dpt 4 5/8" flattop 44 special. As for velocity, you might get 100-150 fps more. run it up till it gets better or worse and do your bullet performance tests. dont think a critter out there is going to notice the difference. good luck!

But, load data and velocity reports will be very interesting as you work loads higher...

Yeah, that load will hunt as it is, but if you keep fooling with it, you probably will get some tighter groups.

That’s impressive accuracy and speed with just 23 gr. More info on load? As in do you have a picture of the modified bullet? Alloy? Primer? Just wondering as it looks real good.

Sir, the load actually uses the MP 432-640 solid Which weighs 268gr in this alloy on my scale. It is an unknown mixture of purchased COWW alloy and range scrap. I powder coat with the powder 101 was so gracious to send out for just the asking. It is working wonderfully! I then add a homemade solid base gas check from a pat marlin die. I make them with the thicker aluminum bottles that measure .007-.008 and they work perfectly. The WC820 i have always used as an H110 sub but it's apparently a little faster burning closer to AA9. The primer is an OLD lot of federal standard 150 that i came into at a forgotten time in the past. I will eventually do a ladder and choose the most accurate load.

Chuck, is that 44 working on your wrists like the lighter guns and heavy loads?

Chuck, is that 44 working on your wrists like the lighter guns and heavy loads? Dave, the hot 44's definitely get my attention and my right wrist is sore, but i shot a lot yesterday. After i shot those 2 groups i shot up all the miscellaneous stuff i had loaded. Id say it totaled close to 100 rounds of full power 44 mag. It certainly isnt cranking on wt wrist like the FA 83 does.

Not to sidetrack this very interesting and overdue thread, but this reiterates why I'm on the waiting list for a BFR 454 Casull 6-Shot.
The extra long cylinder will allow long seating and long nosed bullets.
While I don't mind short cylinders like the FA97 and SAA, long cylinders have many benefits too.
Hopefully they'll make a run of them pretty soon...
