I know some here don't consider black bears a threat, one even said the sows with cubs just run away. I wish him luck. Few days ago near Butler Penn., not too far from our esteemed collector of Maxi's, a woman mauled and in hospital. She opened the door and stepped out, to let her dog out. She walked right into a fight with no warning. Sow had 3 yearlings in tow. The sow ended up getting killed soon after, the yearlings tranq'd and deported a few counties N. and E., and dropped in area where I play. The north end of the Allegheny Forest. Stay safe folks.

Bears are wild animals. Sadly,, as noted,, the "Education by Disney" has gotten several people hurt. But due to the fact that every situation is different scenario, we can not predict what animals will do every time.
The bears will do what bears will do. Obviously the woman wasn't aware of her surroundings if it happened immediately upon her exit from her house.

Got out of my vehicle here at home after 2nd shift work. Almost midnite. Upon having two feet on the ground, a step back and close car door, n WOOF ! Bear was around corner of garage. He was wanting to sample my roll cart garbage container. Awareness won't cover everything. Bear was already too close. Midnite in quiet hood, not wanting the warning shot thing. We had a little talk. He popped teeth and stomped, I trash talked him and his momma. Gun in hand . He turned off and dropped down into the brush going towards the river.

If black bear are not dangerous, then why have they attacked people at a rate of 125:1 compared to grizzly? How have they killed and eaten more people than have been attacked by grizzly and polar bears combined?
People who think they can't be dangerous are the same people who want a selfie with the cute bison at Yellowstone each year.

I would imagine black bear outnumber grizzly and polar bear 3000-1 as well. They also inhabit very populated areas vs the other species. Therefore, black bear encounters will be exponentially higher correct? More encounters=more chance of bad encounters. Again, ANY animal is dangerous under the right circumstances. Id bet more people have been killed by domestic cattle than ALL bears combined.

A buddy of mine took his son on an AirDrop caribou hunt in Alaska. The kind of hunt where they drop you in front of a Huge herd of Caribou and pick you up a couple of days later. The guides told them that they did not need to worry about the grizzly bears nearly as much as the black bears. The black bears came at night and tried to drag hunters out of their tent much more often than the grizzlies.

Seems like Every time someone is attacked by a griz or brown bear, we hear about it somewhere. Why do i not read the stories or see the news on all of these people being drug out of their tents by the black bears?

You haven't been looking. I dont go looking for brown or griz attacks yet when it happens, its news. I guess its so common with blackies they just cant report them all so they choose not to report any.
