This was done before the grips but since I am changing this thread to a build thread I needed to post about this part of the process also. I bought a steel grip frame for my Blackhawk 45 from a member here. It was a beautiful blued grip frame and I wanted to have my name engraved on the back strap. My wife brought the grip frame to a local engraver near us who is at every gun show. All I wanted on the back strap was J. Wheeler Well, as it turns out the engraving was done horribly and when he tried to blue inside the freshly engraved letters it turned that portion of the grip frame a different color. The engraving looked as thought a 3rd grader had done it. There was slips and lines where there should not have been and there were gouges that were just ugly. I thought I had ruined it but I then contacted a friend of mine who is a few hours away who is an engraver and runs Smoke Wagon Engraving. He told me to send it to him and he would see if he could fix it. I wasn't sure it could be fixed but sent it to him. He done an excellent job fixing the messed up part as best he could. He also added a few other engraved embelishments and I am very happy with how it turned out. The grip frame was sent to the same place who has the rest of the gun for some Case Color Hardening. Here are some photos of the grip frame with the first engraving and the improved engraving. You can see some of the engravings in the first post on this thread also.

I got a message with some photos for me to drool over showing me that the case color hardening is finished. He is waiting for my grip frame to arrive so he can do that and send it all back at the same time. I am more than pleased with how the refinishing/CCH has turned out.

The grip frame has not been CCH. I hope to have this revolver back together next week sometime. Then it will be testing and load development so I can decided on which Fermin rear sight height to get. Attachments:

Nice, Ive often wondered what engraving looked like with CCH treatment. This one is not perfect because Smoke Wagon had to redo the messed up engraving that was done first but its much better and I am more than happy.

Everyone has their own opinions on what CCH should look like. I really like all that straw color that came out in yours and the grip frame matches the other parts nicely. It is a very unique look.
